The engine ran on and went bang. I honestly think that would finish me off. It does seem that even if you have the modern stuff serviced at the right intervals with the correct parts and oils, it is still a blooming lottery whether something goes pop or not. I wonder if these 20k mile service intervals are part of the problem, with folk waiting until the light comes on to book it in, rather than listen for the odd knock / wheeze / clunk and do something about it. At least with a 6k or 10k service interval the garage is more likely to spot something before it is terminal.

Let's spare a thought for the poor chap with his RRS. There but for the grace of god, and more frequent service intervals....

the reason why most stuff goes boom now, is how its put together. Things are rushed and cheap used if they can get a way with it. This is not land rover etc, its the manufacture's they use to make the odds and sods for the car. All this to make a few quid profit, the last end customer who buys it.
