Which is just how it was prior to the waving bonanza. AFAIR the only other people I used to see in Series Land Rovers ('ie before 90's & 110's) were the local farmers, 'keepers, the odd breakdown wagon, army, GPO, a few horsey people and a smattering of club / trials folks. Steve.

Years ago I went out with a lass who had a smart VDub beetle and it seemed that bunch always exchanged waves - groovy

My take on the subject is that any agricultural areas are waving black spots as X-isle suggests. The farmer types generally seem not to appreciate a wave from an enthusiastic owner. I travel to Lincolnshire a lot and never wave unless waved at, it's not worth the filthy look you get!

I'll be in Hayle next week, so will look out for our resident Defenderoftheearth!

Was on a madatory advance driving course recently for my employer and was informed that waving or anything similar is a no-no. Of course once in my own Defender the Land Rover wave syndrome kicks in.

Just to add, this wasn't meant to be derogative to Farmers and it did when I read it back....... Just that they do purely buy them for their function, which after all that's what they are for, aren't they?

I think it depends on the state of your Landy whether or not farmers will wave back...

In my tatty old 90 which had spent most of its life on a farm it fitted in quite well with the well used and abused Defenders farmers seem to run so they'd wave back, probably assuming I was a full-time-farmer.

In Big Black which is dent free and often clean (

) they don't tend wave unless I know them. Mostly just Landy types who wave back now, and a few Merc 7.5tonners belonging to a local fresh food supplier who think I work with them as they have a few identical 90's (minus the snorkel) to mine, even the reg starting PJ09.....

No no and no - I hate all show and no go. I'm the other way around. I like "sleepers" and that's exactly what a 335d SE Touring is. A standard looking estate car with almost 300bhp. That happens to be a lot of fun to drive too. It most definitely is NOT a poser's car. For that you get an M Sported 318d or an S-Lined Audi 2.0TDI... Or if you're wedged up, a C63 Estate or an M5 Touring (if you need an estate car that is).
