fan belt - look at the belt tensioner, tighten it up.
why did the garage not look at that for you? it's easy to resolve. |

by the way, check the factorry handbook to find out what the deflection should be on a new belt (the amount you can press it in by in inches/half inches etc)

Make sure you have a decent quality belt to start with, this link may be of interest...

Tensioner is fine - sitting just perfect - will look at the pulleys though.
Any ideas on the ABS? 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

How did you check the dtc's? With a nanocom? if so get me the fault numbers after the dtc code ie: P0404-75 as there is a list of known trouble codes and what causes them and how to check them with a multimeter. Also if you have a nanocom go into the abs module and run all the tests and check the position of sensors/switches and what voltages every thing is drawing, saving the live data if need be If you can't do it the dealer will be able too, or if need be I will as you are only down the road |

Lorryman,
I too had frustrating experiences with TC and ABS issues which were intermittent and manifested themselves normally in damp conditions. Turned out it was a chaffed cable loom shorting out to earth. Three times mine was in for the defect the last time it reappeared 20 minutes after collecting it from the dealers. That was some considerable time ago. If you've got the know how and the tools or know a decent sparky carry out insulation checks on the associated wiring. My issue was down to the 'rear left outlet valve' aparently the cable had been routed incorrectly since manufacture and had chaffed against an adjacent loom. Result was it was shorting out and giving me the TC and ABS captions. Just a 'pointer' for you! Good luck! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Garage printed off X431 Diag Report using a Smartbox Code 001 - Pump Failure 1 (monitor line) Code 002 - Pump Failure 3 (pump sticking) Code 003 - Shuttle valve switch failure In addition, we now have the TC light coming on when engine is revved even when in neutral. Driving us all nuts - any help greatly appreciated. Am planning to put it to a Land Rover specialist in Cumnock - Gibsons - if anyone has any experience...... Did check with nanocom - no faults on the ABS module, and nothing relevant on the engine module. So, to summarise: ABS light on all the time Occassional TC activation on left side, causing vehicle to lurch to the left TC light coming on under revs when in neutral Screaming fan belt 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

Had a couple of thoughts today about your ABS faults, my head hurts now. Did they check and clean the ABS wheel sensors and wiring? The fact that the tc activates the nearside brakes leads me to think that the problem may lie with these sensors. ie: sensors report that the offside wheels are moving slower (faulty speed sensor reports lower wheel speed than actual, so TC thinks nearside wheel slip, so tc activates) causing the TC to activate on nearside to slow them down to the same speed as the offside, brake application and TC light illuminates. When you checked the abs live data did you do this whilst driving it or at a stand? Also a faulty ABS wheel sensor does throw on the ABS warning light, had my rear O/S replaced under warranty.
I'm on the laptop just now but will check the codes you gave me later when I get home. |

The codes you where given are not applicable to the list I have as they are dependant on the DTC and the numerical two digit error code given after the dtc, sorry. Any further along with a solution? |

Quotes from report from garage where they have resolved everything.
" Checked ABS/TC fault, found fault for the rear left ABS sensor, electrical implausibility, found the rear left hub bearings to have failed, the bearings clicking in rotation. Supplied & fitted new hub bearings & seals as required. Checked & tested, still showing electrical implausibility with rear left sensor. Supplied & fitted new ABS sensor & cleared stored faults, roadtested OK." "Found the vehicle to be lethargic during roadtest - checked & found turbo waste gate actuator to be partially seized, freed off & tested OK." "Checked for aux drive belt squeeling continually, found outer edge of belt to be fraying badly. Found the aux belt tensioner to be kicking at an angle causing belt to run off line, & aux pulleys coated with an oily residue - cleaned all out, fitted new aux belt tensioner & aux drive belt, cehcked & tested OK." The bearing was really in some state, and SHOULD have been spotted during a major wheels off service in May, but was missed by grease monkey V1.0. As suggested by POM, the upgrade to grease monkey V2.0 special edition has been successful. 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

k9f.....I think u may have said just the right thing ....it only manifested itself when wet.
Was properly wet here this am and when leaving car park this afternoon I heard a strange noise as if brakes were lightly applied onto a rusted disc brake and I thought I saw a yellow light come on on right side of dash board...... Off to check abs sensor wires? |
