I put chequer plate in the back of mine from new (8 years ago) Recently removed the old piece from the floor, it was getting a bit tired. Underneath the tub floor was still like new.

Excellent! I was hoping someone would tell me that! Did you use anything to actually fix the plate down? I was wondering about a bit of silicon to help it stay in place as didn’t really want to drill holes. The weight of my tool should keep it in place anyway

You would be fine with strips of sticky back foam, or silicon. Like you say, the weight of tools will stop it shifting.

I used silicone around the edges, also on mine (a 90) there are 2 m6 bolts going through the floor for the wing supports underneath. So I bolted them down through the plate as well.

Having had old farm vehicles with bare metal in the back I'd keep the rubber mat. Everything slides around on metal flooring and anything loose rattles like a b*&*^&%.
The absolute best stuff I have ever come across is what I use in the back of my pickup, it is a really heavyweight mat that is designed as non-slip floor for carrying animals on board ships. I did this to mine after replacing an already fitted ply floor that had been screwed in. The ally has been riveted and bolted where appropriate. Plate is 3mm all round.
Also had a storage box made. The rubber mat is covering the plate which is also fitted to the floor. I needed the mat to stop everything sliding around. Wow that looks great! Pretty much what I’m after but I’m going to ply and carpet the walls so I can use them for materials storage. |

Looks great! Luckily my tools boxes fit side by side exactly and 6 deep so sliding shouldn’t be an issue for me. |

I have it in mine, very pleased with it for the purpose it serves.
I have a Genuine HT mat in the centre as well for the dogs, but the stable matting would do just as good a job really. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I'm a mobile HGV mechanic. I'm always chucking heavy stuff in the back and the floor was starting to look a bit rough, so i bought this one off a mate of mine.....

Just removed the rubber mat in mine after the heavy rain over the last couple of days and guess what...it was sodden underneath. So, decided to leave the rubber mat out for a few days to help dry it out. Reason for post is the potential for water underneath any flooring you put it if you defender is not water tight
