I faced the same problem when fitting those bike racks to my First Four roof bars, which are around 50 x 50mm in section. I resolved it by buying some longer bolts and making some backing plates from flat steel bar:

Yeah, they're absolutely fine. I've even re-purposed those plates and the camlock levers from the bike racks to attach my Ozpod to the same bars. Darren

In the end
With the two thule bile racks I have I have drilled right through them and the bars and bolted them down. I'm happy they are solid, I don't want any moving around and I'm unlikely to use them any other way just on the trailer as I have a Thule towbar rack for normal use. I've also bolted the uprights to the sides of the trailer as again wasn't happy with the fit using the gutter type way. Its proper solid now Just need two more bike racks |
