Summer starting and high oil temperature
Hi All,

now that summer started in the Middle East, we had few days over 40C. Car is driving fine except for a medium loss of power due to upgraded intercooler on its way out. (I am working on the warranty now, should be solved soon).

My worry is that both EGT and coolant temps are stable and within the usual range (300C post turbo & 82C with PEL500110) when driving 110 km/h on the flat, but the engine oil temps climbs up to 90C (usually 72/75C in our "winter") then goes down to 78C for no reason and black slowly to 90C and so on.

Shall I be worried? Any explanation? Can this be caused by IC leak?

Thanks in advance

90 doesn’t seem high. Mine Goes up to 100. Hot weather, 4 kids, a caravan and up the Mountains. a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

Don't ask me how you check it.
The oil filter has a cooler that is fitted with a thermostat on the intake side. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Thanks both for your inputs!

Regarding the thermostat, has anybody drilled it to have it all the time? Temperature over here never gets below 20C so it should not cause any trouble?!?

The vehicle is built for it, don’t worry and you’ll enjoy it more.

Jup no problems. Btw it’s the PEL500110 thermostat. a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover
