Although the 2.2 looks different it looks on pic's that it fits by the same 2 bolts at the front so i'm just wondering if this also fits as it might help with noise reduction being bigger if not then i will order the one specific for the 2.4 Hope it is ok for me to use the pic Bellautoservices

Ha! Topically I recently bought a 2.2 cover from ebay to try to retrofit to my 2.4. There are some old threads on here that discuss the topic and it seems the 2.2 cover requires some fettling to fit but it seems like it could be done. I haven't got round to trying it yet though.

I will just get the 2.4 as i have enough to do but thanks for letting me know ie bulkhead and rust prev all the chassis as well whilst doing the bulkhead along with other jobs whilst the roof is half way up i will get that taken off and sealed among other stuff i'm guessing, 3 door locks inc ignition swap as front doors don't lock with LR keys so just using dead locks, windowscreen, bluetooth DAB radio prob single din sony,Then service, MOT in August and then prob need a thorough prep for respray hopefully all done this year before the winter, NO early retirement for me as prob a bank loan needed hopefully small.

I don't think that cap does anything - mine had just the hole when I got it. I ordered the cap from LR Direct just for fun. It just screws in and covers the hole. No purpose that I can identify.

Some applications of the engine (non-Landrover) use that space for a filter of some kind, which the cap covers. Sadly I can't now remember what applications nor what the filter does. It may be an oil separator for the breather, I really can't remember.

Blackwolf is correct, that place was for a secondary oil filter if memory serves. It was for vehicles that had more clearance in the engine bay as the filter was quite tall and was therefore deleted for Puma Defenders.
First time I saw that cap thingie though. I may order one for kicks in the future once I get him reliably running again. |
