It was never going to look like the iconic vehicle it replaces and if this is close to the finished article I for one will not be buying it. The thing I have always loved about the Defender is its originality against all the other jelly mould vehicles out there and what we have with the replacement is just another streamlined copycat. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

This was always going to happen, there will not be a true replacement, it wouldn't make any economic sense for JLR.
They need to produce a vehicle that fits in with their modern construction techniques. If this is actually what rolls out the factory, it's not bad as it has some squareness that evokes classic LR, but yes, its essentially a slightly scaled down and ruggedised discovery 3/4. Not a bad thing in its own right, but not a traditional Land Rover. |

Funny how many other companies successfully run premium car *and* commercial ranges without any problems. Ford and Mercedes-Benz are two examples that come to mind. Yet JLR somehow think they are wrong??? 2011 110 USW

I just clicked your link thinking there was some big reveal. It's funny seeing all the current Land Rovers side by side like that, they look exactly the same. I know it's been said before but in a photo lineup like that they are hilariously similar! |

Ford does not come to mind when thinking luxury cars. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

It was more an example of a firm with multiple ranges, three are others, most Japanese firms for example. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

I think LR are only interested in chasing the luxury/premium market these days. They are not really like Ford or any other similar marque with multiple types of vehicles, and don't want to be. True about Mercedes though having vans and some of the most luxurious vehicles on the road, both ends of the spectrum.

And Mercedes also seem to be able to market what is essentially the same vehicle to both ends of the spectrum i.e. the G Wagon which is available in basic military spec and full rapstar bling versions. Land Rover could've done the same with the Defender but they've burnt the farm and become just another SUV brand. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Am I the first to say I like that?
It was always going to be different, I think the basic shape for both 90 & 110 versions look promising. 2015 Defender 90XS HT |
