I don’t understand how it is worth £2k. This week I was offered a two owner 1989 2.5 turbo, 90 hardtop all original (in white), owned by an old school dude who used it for shooting for 25 years and didn’t clean it for about 25 years. The chassis is knackered, the bulkhead is completely knackered, steering box gone, battery box gone, rear tub gone, lower doors gone, engine needs a decent service, brakes gone. Other than that it is fine.
I can’t see it is worth more than a token gesture as it needs a new chassis, new bulkhead etc to do a proper job. Is the one in the photo not so bad? |

Work back from it will be worth (in the real market) when finished to your chosen condition, and subtract the (real) cost of getting it there.
Take 20% off for contingencies and that's your price. Not sure it's £2K...... Huttopia, if the Diesel Turbo engine has been maintained as well as the rest of the vehicle, what you have there is heap of scrap parts. IMO late Ninetys are not yet feasible for restoration from that condition. |

Huttopia you do get some right over priced sheds, The four I looked at before I bought my dear departed now, all needed a fare few jobs doing to them, enough to knock 2k off them. The one I ended up with, even though it needed work doing it, was the fifth one and was the best one by far out of them. My dad said mine was better than his nick wise too, but that was after we put right a lot of stuff that should have been failed on the MOT that it had on, at the time. I think mine was sorted out half arsed loved sadly. Just a right old shame we lost her this year, I had some right old plans for her too,
Just the hunt on finding a decent one, and that's becoming a pain in the arse sadly. I thought I was sorted a couple of weeks ago, but the seller decided to sell. So I am waiting again until something turns up again. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Spot on. I’ve a vague recollection it isn’t the best engine LR ever made! The gap fill prior to the 200tdi. If I can get it for its scrap value then it will be a platform for the kids to learn different skills on. Not from me obviously, YouTube and a friend who knows what they are doing. 👍

My first coil sprung LR was a 1988 110 CSW fitted with a Turbo Diesel engine. It was about 5 years old when I purchased it from a dealer called Roger Bass in Essex. Anyway I had it for a while until I px'd it for a Discovery 200tdi. It was only then I realised the engines were so different. I don't think I could go back to that now having been so used to tdi/tdci performance ever since. 1984 One-Ten CSW

You've trodden on my rivet-counter toe again Richard! I suspect your 1988 110 CSW was fitted with what Land Rover always called the Diesel Turbo engine, and they referred to vehicles fitted with these engines as Diesel Turbos. This is because they were already selling another vehicle as a Turbo Diesel - the then current Range Rover with the VM diesel in it. They wanted to keep the two engines (and vehicles) clearly apart, and hence gave them different names. Or maybe your 110 had a VM lump in it..? |
