I'm not sure if it's been shown elsewhere but I saw this from J E Engineering and wondered what people thought?
Defender 2.3 EcoBoost GDiT, Gasoline Direct Injection Turbo YouTube video – Future proof your Defender. Current-day demands dictate that every vehicle range needs to have a model that pushes emissions and economy to the fore, even if that’s a relative concept when it comes to Defender. But a combination of JE know-how and engineering capability, and the availability of increasingly-impressive OE manufacturer powerplants, has led to our latest development for the Defender, JE’s Petrol 2.3 GDiT. Based on the Ford Mustang 2.3 litre EcoBoost engine, our 2.3 Gasoline Direct Injection Turbo engine is very quiet and smooth, but gives a very responsive drive from 307 bhp and 432 Nm. Your Defender can be legally certified as a petrol vehicle, with excellent performance and good fuel economy. Manual or Auto gearbox available. The 2.3 eco boost isn’t a bad engine, especially in a focus RS.
Admittedly it’s far removed from the old 2.5L Volvo diesel engines used in previous Rs & St lines aptly duratorque. The 2.3 is a through and through rally engine. It's a strange alternative IMHO, but really, there's no reason why it couldn't work. But if I was going to do an engine swap it would be LS3.
The Mustang has been a massive success in Aussie, sales exceeding everyone's expectations including those of Ford. But the ecoboost 4 cyl has not been well received, very few sales, and a poor driving experience relative to the V8, lack of performance, and the "noise" it makes (or doesn't make!) being some of the issues. But having said all this, I'd welcome a run down/opinions from someone that's driven/owned an ecoboost Defender. Pickles. |

Fuel costs are probably a bit less expensive on your side of the earth?
Anyways, with only 122 bhp now, I can hardly imagine this wouldn’t be enough. The price though... |

I've driven it, its well put together and JE have done a good job and they seem to have plenty of orders. It's not for me, it is wildly mediocre and thankfully is the last push I needed to start the fitment of an LS3 V8 to my truck, hell, it even does the same mpg!
