Thanks all for your thought regarding snorkels and fitting. Surprised of the price of a genuine Landrover one compared to the others. Some more consideration required. Many thanks again for your thoughts.

This guy below wishes he had installed a snorkel.
Click image to enlarge Houston, we have a problem. Click image to enlarge I`ve been tempted myself a few times to install the Entreq snorkel with its waterproofing kit, but never got to it sofar. Right now it remains cheap temptation, because they are sold out/waiting a new production batch. We will see when back in stock if I will ask Olaf to install one... Also would have to make sure that our Swiss MOT would not object to it. See pictures in first post of below thread and then in a relevant post by thor44. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic41867.html
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

You can do a lot without a snorkel:
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge But I don't have the standard td5 wings and had a wet airfilter after this. I have a Mantec Raised air intake, looks good, and does what it says on the tin.

What he said a V8 snorkel works well on a TD5. Looked in to this at some length. Don't particularly like them but it was required for a long trip a few years back RAI versus snorkel. If you have to keep air intake out of harms way for wading then a snorkel is the way to go and the V8 version does this well. Fitting to a TD5 is straight forward. 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top |

The other option is from P&P cages http://www.ppcages.com/accessories/land-rover/snorkels/
I have this one on my TD5 110 and it is a great piece of kit, solid and one of the few that will fit with a roll cage. Interestingly I see that Safety Devices are developing a new RAI for use with their cages... I hope it is a BIG bore unit... A few photos with this RAI; Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

I have a Mantec RAI installed on my 206 300Tdi. I want to make it waterproof but I'm stuck on the valve in the piping.
Click image to enlarge I see the advantages of this on our dusty roads and would like to keep it in the piping, but how to seal it when crossing deep water. This I don't do that often but sometimes I must. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge So do make a temporary seal, like grease, or just remove it? And lastly, are there any other places that I must give attention. |

Hi, As I an idea and what I have done is to simply zip tie a rubber glove over the end of the dump valve. Simple, easy, effective and easy to remove when not needed.. |

Thanks. I considered using a bit of grease but that will be difficult to fully clean afterwards.
Your glove idea is good. I did try to find a rubber blankoff to fit over it but no success. |

I have just removed all pipes and connected it directly, without any valve. I have experience with making cars live again, after going through not so deep water. Just add spare air filter in car, because it will be destroyed with water.
Not so deep - up to top of wheels - with snorkel no problem Deep - up to bottom of front screen - with snorkel no problem, but a bit wet in car (Defender). with Discovery 2 drowned engine ECU Too deep - water splash over roof - snorkel is not enough, water inside roof tent "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo |
