The Land Rover one looks best, but the Safari is better to make fully waterproof. Although you can make the LR one waterproof. There is all the pipe connections a water drain valve in pipe from air intake to air filter housing and drain hole in air filter housing. All need to be sealed to be fully waterproof.

There are so many joints in the standard air intake you'd probably be best off replacing the wing to airbox pipework for a single piece of pipe IMO

Hi Gozy, I was going to fit one to my 2003 td5 before I sold it but came across some concerns regarding the air restriction it could cause at certain speeds.
I could be wrong but it is worth looking into it before fitting one, good luck 👍 |

I have a southdown raised air intake -
stainless pipe, but powder coated black new pipework through to filter box - no leaks for water ingress my engine is quite highly tuned and have no issues with air flow - the faster you go the more air is forced down the pipe Only issues is going through leafy vegetation that can block the intake - but you are only going slowly so not an issue to remove Click image to enlarge |

See if you can get hold of a safari V8 this is sealed and has continuous flexi hose |

Land Rover RAI is very sturdy and I have sealed it up. Not very easy to fit just any aftermarket to a LHD Td5 intake. Good luck

Don’t forget the fuses and relays below the drivers seat on a td5. They need to be sorted if you want to go wading deep. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop

the defender I was going to go after had a snorkel on, and I was going to ask the dealer to remove it, my dad winged on at me about it, But like Mike says if you really need one then go a head, I don't think they are practical for road use motors, yeah great if you are going off road, Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Why anti them?
Cleaner air up high. I don’t like the idea of all the water spray when motorway driving in rain without one. No loss in performance with one fitted. And I’ve had no relay issues when wading. Just practice good technique, get a bow wave, and avoid stopping in water. Click image to enlarge |

I like them and have fitted them to nearly all my LRs, but each to their own. I hate the idea of playing, then someone else ploughs through the water you are in, and wave enters the air intake. For me I dislike all the big wheel shiney, never see mud ones.
