Another vote for Tdi - simple and cheaper to maintain. Have a chat with Turner Engineering in Lingfield (LR engine re-manufacturers) they will also suggest a TDi over a TD5.

Also my plan Thumbs Up but in a couple of years as I was thinking of maybe retiring my series2 in time and getting a LWB Tdi... Careful what you buy, you can spend 2-3K getting it sorted if it's a wrong-un but you don't need telling that - happy hunting, I'll let you know if I come across anything Thumbs Up

hi Very Happy weve got a 200tdi series 2a its been fitted for 2 1/2 years now when it came out of the disco donor it had done from memory 185000 miles weve put a further 25000 on to that since, we changed the belt and rollers before fitting and service it every 3000 miles which some may say is over the top but weve had no reliability issues at all,i would definately recomend a 200tdi Mr. Green Thumbs Up paul n tash

I am not a lover of the Rover V8 engine but if it's a recon and runs well maybe would do what you want, they don't like water though. Andy.

Fook me, he's pricey on his defenders! I'll have to remember to give ours a wash n wax and take a picture outside an industrial unit when we sell ours.

Steve, get a 200 or 300 and have a bit of man fun tinkering with it.

If you wanna go ragged, a well known Series 2 has come for sale that has been in mags and wins at AWDC events. The conversion of a 3.5V8 RR engine etc was done by Gumtree4x4. All in good shape apparently and was serviced 200 miles ago - details on the Series2 club forum Thumbs Up It's in Surrey - Dorking probably! Oh wants 2K for it.......

I had a look at a few cars at Walton Motors early last year. Very pricey for their condition and a few had waxoil plastered over major corrosion!!

Have a look at Liveridge in Birmingham, they deal with a lot of older landies, you can buy them as they are or have them spec'd up to what you want.
