Understanding Land Rover parts catalogue numbers
Hopefully an easy one for someone with the right knowledge to answer. I am trying to figure out what parts I should have on my 1989 110 from the Land Rover parts catalogue, specifically for the front axle half shafts, to verify its 10 spline halfshaft.

Page 414 in the catalogue covers this, and lists:

"Upto VIN 930434 - 110" which mine is (mine VIN unique parts starts with a 3)

This lists me with 4 options:

FRC3890 - Halfshaft assembly RH - Note(1)
FRC3891 - Halfshaft assembly LH - Note(1)
FTC1332 - Halfshaft assembly RH - Note(2)
FTC1333 - Halfshaft assembly LH - Note(2)

Note(1) - Upto 20L48865 RHS, 21L33355 LHS
Note(2) - From 20L48866 RHS, 21L33356 LHS

I am struggling to understand this Note(1) and Note(2). From what I have found the VIN number is decoded as:

S = Europe (Geographical Region - 1st Character)
A = United Kingdom (Country - 2nd Charcter)
L = Land Rover (Manufacturer - 3rd Character)
LD = Ninety, One Ten, 127, Defender (Model Type - 4th and 5th Characters)
H = 110" (L/R) (Wheelbase - 6th Character)
M = Defender 5 door Station Wagon (Body Style - 7th Character)
V = 3.5L V8 carb, petrol, low compression (Engine type - 8th Character)
7 = LT85 5 speed manual / right hand drive (Gearbox type - 9th Character)
E = 1988 (Year of Manufacture - 10th Character)
A = Solihull, UK (Build Type - 11th Character)
3xxxxx = Unique Serial Number (12th - 17th Characters)

so the unique part is 6 digits. What does Note(1) and Note(2) refer to then, which is 8 characters? Did the numbers eventually run out and they added another couple of characters on, putting me into Note(1)? I suspect this is not the case as the VIN decoders all reference just a 6 character unique bit at the end.

I'm all confused (again) Embarassed

Cheers in advance,
