TD5 Fails to Start. Frothy Fuel from High Pressure Line
I am Steven Johns and I own a Defender TD5 2004 Model. My Defender doesnt start. I noticed that the fuel from the high pressure line to the engine is frothy. I have replaced the pump and it is still the same. Can anyone assist

Sounds like a possible air leak into the fuel system. Is your FPR leaking? 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

The FPR is new and it is not leaking. However prior to the incident I noticed that the fuel return to the pump was extremely hot to the extent that one would get burned if they touched the fuel filter. I replaced the injector washers and the O-rings.

I do not see any faults on my code reader. I am using the Hawkeye Diagnostic tool from Bearmach. I will check again and revert

Yup next thing to check is that. The aluminum can become corroded and porous. That little valve thingy is also PITA when it gets blocked. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

The fuel return shouldn’t be red hot. That needs investigating as it could be dangerous.

check fuel return cooler has coolant flowing throw the unit, is on the drivers side underneath the top engine cover

As up date to post 98 to 2004 type fuel cooler have a themost on the coolant inlet to the unit can cores problems with coolant flow Exclamation

I have changed the fuel pump and the filter housing. Fuel seems to be flowing with pressure now, but the vehicle still doesnt start. I used the Hawkeye diagnostic tool and there is no error displayed. Could this be a crank sensor problem. What are the symptoms of a bad crank sensor?

I also noticed that the fuel return from the cooler to the tank returns with pressure. Is that normal?

It has finally started. I needed to bleed it for a while by depressing the pedal 5 times. I will drive it a long distance and observe it.
