My 2011 110 USW is the lower bracket--- Classed as "Commercial"
I do worry about this though, as there's conflicting advice as to whether this also means I am bound to "Commercial" speed limits - bit of a worry on A-Roads with Average Speed Cameras... So there may be a downside Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

No, you're not. This is a misconception that's come up several times on here. Defenders are classes as dual purpose vehicles and, as such, are bound by regular car speed limits. Darren

Ours is a 2015 2.2 and the tax is £250 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue

A bit off the OP’s original thread but possibly worthy of mention - NOT all Defenders fall within the legal definition of “dual purpose vehicle” as they have an unladen weight exceeding 2040kg. Such excluded vehicles will be subject to the lower light goods speed limits. |

It is true that to be a DPV the vehicle's unladen weight must not excess 2 tons (2040kg), but I bet you can't tell me of a single standard Defender built this century which has an unladen weight in excess of 2040kg.
All the standard configurations including 130 wheelbase models are under 2040kg ULW based on JLR figures. |

No, if it is N1 is will say "N1 Light Goods" irrespective of body style. If it is M1 it will say something like "M1 Diesel Car". I don't think that the V5 has ever had anything as straightforward as a "category" and private or commercial. |

My 2010 110” 2.4
V5C states: Body type...Estate Vehicle category...N1 Taxation Class...Light Goods Vehicle Registered.....30-07-2010 Was told at purchase to be one of the first to be in the lower Tax rate. How true I don’t know, but maybe others have older ones with low tax |

Hi Blackwolf, I can’t find any official unladen weight figures from Land Rover. I’ve only been able to google up this..... Click image to enlarge As you can see, the quoted weights include a 68kg driver with 7kg of luggage and 90% fuel load. Not certain but I think the 110s and 130s have a fuel capacity of 75 litres. If this is correct then the variants I’ve highlighted in the photo are the ones whose unladen weight may exceed 2040kg. |

If you calculate the weight of the driver, fuel, tools & spare wheel, etc, and derive the ULW from the KW, you'll find those come out under.
You may well be over if you have a 110 SW with winch, cage, and roofrack though. |
