Missing door seal
We’ve been enjoying the new defender over last couple of weeks however the wife has been mentioning a draft coming from around the seatbelt b post, she mentioned it a few times so I had a look this afternoon.

There seems to a seal missing

Does anyone know the part I need and do I have to take the ‘sill’ off to fit it?

Cheers
Jit

Where abouts is the missing seal? On mine the seal goes all around the door frame from bottom left corner, all around the top of the frame, to bottom right and its a single long piece. There's then also a seal along the bottom of the door.

Ah! I'm going to have to do some serious draught-proofing soon.... I have one like this on the driver's side in my car.

There's a few things I've wondered about as possible causes:

The 'bung' in the bottom of the B pillar. I think there should be one, and I think mine's missing. My reasoning is that without it, air might be drawn up the B pillar while the car's moving, and then escape from the slot for fixing the 2nd row door hinges. I'll see if that makes a difference easily enough, just by putting some tape over those hinge bolt holes

Another option I've wondered about is maybe up through the battery box. Depending on what carpet or mat arrangement you might have. Or maybe up via the plate that fixes under the cubby box.

And, another thought I had was a draught coming through the door cards. My car's missing the small 'corner pieces' that go with the window seals. There are huge gaps there.

And then there's the mystery blast of cold air that seems to hit the gearstick on right hand bend.... Donald

Just seen your pics - pretty sure there isn't meant to be a seal there. I don't have one anyway. Donald

All other doors do not have this gap

I was expecting some draughtiness but several times I’ve looked over at the passenger door and it sounds like it’s not closed properly- this is the reason!

I don’t have a door seal like that, it’s dark now so not great pics

This is a pic of the rear door opening, there is a rubber seal in the gap

Do these improved door seals fit on earlier doors? The TDI ones, or the newer 'round corners' galvanised ones? Donald

its a stick on foam seal - Mine fell off/fell apart. The whole sill needs to be unbolted, cleaned and old bits of seal removed with white spirit. The new seal sticks onto the sill. 1953 80"

Ok thanks, so I just need to get some foam seal stuff, I’m guessing it’s fallen off at some point

Do you have the door seals pictured above?

The foam seal between the cill and the floor will not cure your draught problem. You need to fit the missing rubber seal to the bottom of the door.

Unfortunately not. The door frames are very different shapes. Darren
