Rear Wheel Box Storage!
I'm thinking about making some storage boxes similar to the ones I have in my 109. They are cavernous and would be so useful to store stuff! Just wondered if anyone has done this before or seen any on the market already to go? The rear seats will block much of the opening but there is still a good gap to load up the box Thumbs Up

They are 2' long by 1' wide and 9" deep. Makes me wonder why they don't put them in anymore Sad

Cost cutting is probably the reason plus the top of the wheelboxes are no longer flat. You can get lockers that access from the side but it wouldn't be difficult to fabricate some top access versions up.

TBH I'm not sure I can envisage you cutting and hacking your precious baby about to that extent Wink Steve.

I have been thinking about a storage box. I like the idea of using the space at the rear of the wheel arch but having a door on the outside is silly so how about having the door inside next to the 3rd row seats?

I did email entreq but did not get a reply.

if you have to cut the rear wing to install the existing offerings then cutting the wheel arch inside the tub should be a much easier option ..

What about this? Today i made this storage solution: a square PE plastic container inside the wheel arche. It is about 25 x 25 x 35 cm with large diameter opening, approx. 20 l volume.

Thanks Warpig, might be able to do something with one of those - I think the price is reasonable also compared with a lot of the overpriced stuff Thumbs Up

No, may be it is not very clear to see in that picture, but there's lots of space. Cheers, Vincent

Change of plan I am going to take the rear seat out and put a storage box in it's place with an unseen safe going into the side of the wheel box.

Barebox http://www.barebox.co.uk/ seem to be the only people that are working on a chest that fits the Puma curved wheel box shape! Does anyone know of one already on the market? The barebox does look good and decently priced compared to the Mobile storage System one at £192 + VAT Shocked No one seems to do one specifically for the Puma yet...

If you have someone near you who makes iron gates and railings etc get them to make something to your specs. out of light metal sheeting on a metal framework. Would not cost much and it would be made to fit your vehicle. Quite easily done in this neck of the woods. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

It's a thought Thumbs Up Labour charges are £40 an hour around here plus materials would be the price of the £80 box. I don't think they could do it for 1.5 hrs say - worth a try though. I should have a go myself but it would be better to get it done professionally as it will be very visible and it would take me best part of a day to do it myself so might as well earn it to buy a proper job!

Steve at Barebox was very helpful and sent through a CAD drawing immediatley so I could find out if it fitted and it would apart from the thicker window moulding present on the Puma Banging Head You could put a reverse lid on it and cut around the moulding but it would lose it's rigidity Sad

Back to getting one adapted or having one built bespoke or making the sides and front from wood covered with black carpet/vinyl with a chequer plate top. You only need a front, top and sides if you line the inner wing to protect it OR a wood frame with chequer plate sides, front etc! Thumbs Up

The Mobile Storage Systems one that was designed for the old Defender does fit if you turn it on its side but you lose all of that space under the recess.

I'll be going over to Mobile Storage Solutions later this month and one thing i'm going to do is go through a design for a box that fits the contours of the wheel arch in my DCPU. I'll keep you posted. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.
