I was following a Range Rover Sport today (face-lift as mentioned) in the dark.
To my amazement, when they indicated off the motorway the nearside tail light went out to allow the indicator to flash. How is this legal? I know the Jag F-pace does it but that has a section that stays on. If you put the hazard warning lights on does this mean you'd have no tail lights in the dark? Just food for thought/discussion really 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I should add that this didn't appear to be a fault.
Once the indicator was cancelled the tail light faded back on (quite stylishly I must say) 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I knew it was the 18MY face-lift (which is excellent) but hadn't seen one in the dark before.
With the general standard of driving as low it is in Britain, I'd have thought you'd want as much light as possible I might be catching it from my dad 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

This is another reason our insurance premiums are increasing. £15 ish for a defender tail lamp Vs £1000+ for these gimmicks, intended to lure individuals into changing for a new, "better" car.
Was looking over the new Evoque yesterday. Fancy pop out door handles, ala Velar. Another complexity to send your vehicle to the workshop when they break I'm not against innovation, just gimmickry. Wouldn't mind an external temperature gauge on the defender though Current Steeds: 2015 110 UW in Grasmere Green 2003 BMW F650 the Hack 2000 Elise 1992 Ducati 888 (no longer in bits, yahoo) 1990 TDR 250 (in bits again) 1988 TDR 250 (no longer in bits) and for sale |

Get yourself an ultraguage and it will give you ambient temperature on your defender!

I get your point about insurance and the fact that even a minor driving mishap gets expensive on new cars. Saying that I was driving the 18 Sport with upgraded headlights at night on a major trip and i was shocked comparing to my Defender. I bought upgraded headlights for the 110 the next day! m |

Another thing that is making insurance premiums high is post accident fees.
For example - a weeks storage at a body shop or garage whilst the vehicle is awaiting assessment can be upwards of £100 per day. A replacement hire car is charged at nearly double the rate you'd be charged if you hired it direct from the company. And finally all the companies actively encouraging people to make personal injury claims. No matter how small the accident. My dad was knocked off his motorbike a few years ago by a young lad. My dad's bike was only a few weeks old. The damage repair costs on my dad's bike came to just over £2,000. The total insurance claim was close to £9,000. This was because they repair company (who also happened to supply the hire bike ) to the best part of 2 months to repair the bike. This ment that they charged the lads insurance company £7,000 in hire charges My dad was inundated with phone calls telling him to claim for personal injury (Dad was stopped at traffic lights so the speeds involved were very low). Dad told them this, and that he was fine. Just a slightly sore leg, they told him that a sore leg was good for £1500 compensation! He said no but did claim for a new helmet as it had hit the ground. It took nearly a month of saying no, for the personal injury phone calls to stop. So you can see why some people give in and just say yes. Because you get money to make them go away. Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant, not intentional but kind of on point 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |
