Clutch replacement
Looks like I'm getting clutch replaced under warranty due to rattle. What else should I get replaced at same time?

- Slave cylinder
- Output shaft

What else would be worth doing?

2013, 32k miles

Cheers

Hi Gareth,

I would say the pressure plate and release bearing would need replacing, also inspect the remaining parts for any wear.

Thanks for answers.

I think the release bearing is part of the slave cylinder.... will check on pressure plate.

Pj2016 - I hear what your saying, but it's a warranty claim at main dealer, so has to be genuine parts only. Granted I might be back here again in 30k miles, but that's a good few years for me.

when mine was done under warranty (some years ago) they replace all the parts, slave cylinder/bearing assy, clutch plate and diaphragm. to get the output shaft done you either need to show its kaput (some play) or pay them to do it whilst they have the gearbox out. All these items and the output shaft were done on my 11 reg at 11k miles, with factory parts. The difference in how it drove was immediately noticeable especially improved gear changes and now at 26k I have none of the symptoms that it had at 11k. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Hi Greadh I hope you don't mind me asking but how did you go about approaching LR for this covered under warranty? Is your car not past warranty now? Mine is the same year and has the same annoying rattle.

I think I'll have to pay for the output shaft, but currently the dealership are being very helpful - probably due to past short comings.

The LR extended warranty company have said they will only approve the clutch if the rattle isn't due to ware....but that won't be known until removed. Dealership has agreed to remove the box FOC even if warranty reject the claim. If claim is rejected I can pay for parts or they will bolt back together FOC. What I'm saying is I don't think they will charge too much to replace shaft at same time.

It has the LR extended tended warranty on it, although it only had 3 weeks left when I put the claim in.

The warranty has been v. Good, had a fair bit done with no questions asked.

Swivel seals
A frame joint
Half shafts
Hopefully clutch

This said the renewal cost is near £1000 for the more expensive one...... so I'm going to go with a third party one this time. Also can get work done at independent then.

You could look at one, I'll have to check which I liked look at, but it included ware&tear on items no in the exempt list...... after 90 days if it is a new warranty, not running back to back of an existing one. It was £500, not too bad if you make sure you use it. Also, guess it depends on there easy to pay up!

They are only being helpful due to such an awful job they did on a corrosion claim a few months ago. I ended up demanding dealer principle came and walked round the car and say it was good....... he was speechless and the car was redone and had a full paint correction and detail (they even cleaned the engine) so at least credit for putting their wrongs right.

I decided at the time not to bother with the extended warranty, after having so many issues with the local dealerships I thought that I would take my chances.I have access to a workshop so the vast majority of issues aren't an issue, its mainly when it comes to parts etc. Thumbs Up
