[Wanted] - good quality winch 9.5T to 12.5T
I am after a fresh Superwinch or Warn winch that has done very little work for an off road defender 200tdi, if it comes with a winch bumper in good condition to suit, then even better. Must be synthetic rope version. Needs to be as new condition.

My advice would be to buy new. Tds are not much. Any second hand little used winch is an unknown, the less it's done with age the more likely it is to have problems. Winches don't stand to not been used much. Especially warn winches. Cheers

Ok thanks, hadn’t considered a Goodwinch as someone selling winches told me they were not that good compared to Superwinch or Warn. Will have a look at the Tds

it all depends on use. weve used plenty of davids winches to extremes without issue.

t max are ok if you want a 12-24 mth winch slow and noisy but pull hard.

warn are good but dear.

warn with a bowmotor and soleniod upgrade job done.

I'd put a standard Goodwinch above a standard Warn.

i ran a TDS as rear winch in our challenge truck for 3 years. it did not have an easy life with lots of hard sideways pulls. never failed and we won Howlin Wolf National Series twice with it.

Most challenge trucks that compete seriously run TDS as mid winches.

Reliability wise i definitely put above a Warn considering a warn with std motor we serviced approx once every 6 week on the LRE fleet just to keep them working.

my opinion is that people like the Warn and tend to fit them based on perception and as LR supplied them OEM rather than actual practical winch users Cheers

I have researched the Goodwinch TDS 9.5i this am and got prices with synthetic rope, around £850 delivered with one year warranty.
Electric Einch Company have a Superwinch 9.5i Talon at £927 delivered with synthetic rope and limited lifetime warranty.
Kind of swinging to the Superwinch Talon because of this, anybody got experience of both?
Also, do most people buy the remote as an extra or do they hard wire them into the cab?

sounds like you made your mind up before posting. 3 posters all suggested TDS and your going with one of your original suggestions. Shocked Cheers

I am still very interested in hearing from Superwinch Talon users and how they compare to Goodwinch.

For an electric winch, the only Warn I'd bother with is an 8274 (I've been greatly unimpressed with the XD9000 on my Disco2), and the only Superwinch I'd bother with is a Husky. The rest are no better than TDS, just more expensive and overrated.

The great thing about advice is that it can be ignored!

I’ve had Warn, Talon, and a good winch.

The Warn looks good, but dies costing stupid money for basic parts

The Talon is very nice looks and performs well, and has option of a very nice remote. I onl6 got rid of mine as it wouldn’t fit the genuine LR winch bumper.

The goodwinch looks poo, was very slow, but always worked. Then looked even worse after being on the front of a car for a few years.

I’ve just bought and fitted a Winchmax item, but only fitted last weekend, so not used in anger yet. But you get a lot for your money.

Andy.

Just a shame they can’t make it look good. It sits on the front of your toy like a cheap Chinese poo, and only progressed to look worse as the Ali went flaky, and the chrome bars turned to rust.

The superwinch also always worked, and looked good from start to finish.

What do you need it for? Self recovery or competition? Are you looking to use it every week or once in a blue moon? Have you got a decent battery, winch power cables, Albright, proper isolator switch ?

Comp use go red or gigglepin ( red also do some nice low lines)

Fit and forget and use it in a blue moon and it will always work ( and look in keeping on a defender) go husky superwinch

Want Value, TDS stuff

I have a goodwinch g10 that’s around 13years old. I bought is secondhand for the price of a new Cheap winch many years ago and it’s never failed to work when I want it to. It’s not rusted to bits either, decent bit of kit with grease nipples on key places.

Dont use cheep synthetic rope. My choice is roughtrax plasma

As ^^^ I had a G10 fitted to my 90. It was the winch on the front of Mr Bowyers 90 for a while. It always worked. Pulled the house down with it's power. But it was slow compared to other winches. But it worked for me.
I now run a WARN xp9.5. Pulls perfectly. For power cables, I went over the top. I was given an old military slave lead. Those that know what they are will understand the size of the cables. Basicaly they are jump leads for 24v military vehicles. So used on smaller armoured vehicles. 110 D250 SE HT
