2011MY 2.4 Puma 110XS USW
Went for a short run this morning, pulled up, switched off, removed the key and the engine kept running for 10 or so long seconds, then stopped. Anyway the rest of the journey involved 4 more stops. Stops 1,3 and 4 were normal, the engine stopped as soon as the ignition was turned off. Stop 2 the engine ran for around 5 seconds after ignition off. No faults are recorded. My concern is that a problem is developing. Any ideas? |

Could be nothing more than a sticky fuelpump relay...

I'm no expert but was told yesterday as my fan and radio sometimes don't turn off that the key barrel gets warn and dry causing the pins stick. I'm planning on squirting some good old WD40 down into it to see if it helps.

Latest JLR recall modification to make it even easier for lowlife to steal.
Seriously though, I hope you can find the fault. |

Hopefully, this will resolve your woes. If it doesn't however, your ignition switch may be on its way out. |

I wouldn't use spray oil, dust and dirt stick to it and cause problems. Use graphite powder, best dry lubricant for locks instead. I also think it has to do with a broken lock or coil. |

Also check the rear stop lights
On mine with certains LED bulb I had the same issue. The engine still running w/o key in place. In this case when I pushed the brake the engine stopped Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |

Thanks both - lubricated ign with graphite, around 10 stops today and no problems.
Thinking back releasing the clutch stopped the engine in the first instance. The law of unexpected consequences (especially with Defender Puma electronics) kicks in here, I have led brake, rear and indicator lights so will try your suggestion if (when) it happens again. Thanks for your responses |
