That's what mine used to do, WTF did they have to put it in such a stupid spot.

Agreed. Might be worth trying to re-route and extend the drain somehow.
After a long run in hot weather I can hear the water boiling off as it drips onto the gearbox. |

It is between the steering wheel cover and the box, well up and very uncomfortable! It is a duckbill rubber. You will drop a good jet of water by the hand!
