What kind of a fleet buyer goes for 29k discovery sport/49k discovery commercial over a 20k qashqai/ 36k land cruiser utility.
Land cruiser comes with two additional years warranty. Aside from ambulances & transport department I have seen no discovery commercials, and no discovery 5 commercials at all. I see defender commercials about the place everywhere, much more affordable back in the day. Have you ever driven an evoque off road??
I have on a LR off road day and it is not a hairdressers car but a stylish competent vehicle with the same 4x4 electronics of the discovery. |

D4 commercials, at least, are very hard to spot as they look like a regular D4 from the outside. All of the changes are to the interior. A friend of mine runs a fleet of them for hauling portable toilets and as they rack up the mileage, is struggling to find something suitable to replace them with that has a comparable towing capacity. Do you think JLRs bigger problem is the environmental lobby / anti diesel brigade?
A largish 4x4 with a petrol engine for most people would be cost prohibitive. Land Rovers entire range do not lend themselves to a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder petrol engine. I’m sure this has been a large part of Nissan’s decision to move X Trail production out of the EU? They need to shift numbers and hand on heart, the old Defender was never a high unit model and probably made very little money. I’m not sure a new model would sell like a Freelander? Maybe JLR have missed the boat. All the utility companies and hardened users have moved on and found the Isuzu or whatever does the job just as well, maybe better? |

Tommo, I would ignore such hairdressers comments immediately. Some people have still not realised that big sellers like the Evoque cross finance future cars like the Defender replacement. I hire Evoques every time when visiting Europe and enjoy every mile in it, despite coming from bigger LR products. As a supporter of the brand I welcome and thank every single buyer, regardless of their choice. m |

Not really. Neither Hilux nor D-Max are proving as tough as the Defender. They are simply not built to run around at gross weight all the time. I saw a Jimny on the motorway the other day, it was much bigger than I thought they were, looked really chunky and retro, very good ground clearance. I’ve come across other farriers that use the Ranger or a Hilux and side by side they are not a patch on the 130 for size in the bed |

I very much doubt they will provide a 130 inch wheelbase.
I have taken very little notice of the leaked pictures, but does it look like there are going to be two / three wheelbase options on LR’s new offering? |

Maybe they should have considered a 100 Inch? Wasn’t this the best Defender Land Rover never made? (I’m paraphrasing that. Can’t remember where I heard it) |
