The fact the gauges don’t return to zero points at the fact that the permanent supply to the gauges is no longer there.
I don’t have the diagrams to hand tonight otherwise I would give you the fuse number to check. So check the fuses again - I think you have blown the one which supplies the gauges. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

On a 2.4 Fuse 30 under steering wheel is permanent supply to radio, gauges, clock (has it stopped?) and interior lamps
On a 2.2 it is Fuse 29. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Remove the fuse as above, check the terminals in the fuse box for damage.
Replace the fuse with a new one to be certain it is OK. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

ok so finally sorted, thanks Martin and dorsetsmith. You were correct fuse 30 was the culprit and also another fuse, however, the reason I thought the fuse hadn't blown was because the fuse diagram in the owners manual is different to the fuse diagram on the inside of the fusebox cover!!! I was looking at the manual.
