I hope I am driving at his age!
These things happen but best thing is no-one one was killed. I hope he bounces back and is able to drive again. All round the world we have an aging population. Better they are mobile and self sufficient. |

The things that's winding me up at the moment, is that He got a replacement there and then, and procta here and everyone else has to wait to god knows when etc for pays out etc. They dont need a car straight away, most of us do as its part of how we get to work etc.
Another thing is that he was snapped with out wearing a seat belt after the crash and the queen has too! looks its rules for them and rules for us. I am not against age related driving, as long as people are still active etc. We all cock up who the hell doesnt, But its best to be checked still just to be safe. I have seen a few people who are well over 70 having close shaves. I dont care how slow they go on the road, as thats just playing it safe. These will have, and not to mention that wont be just the very top spec either, but it will be heavily armoured too etc. Even the queens Defender will be too, Dianna's metro she had was a proper one off and was the most expensive metro built. The replacement vehicle was brought up from Windsor and it isn’t armour plated.

I thought it was fairly evident from the crash photos that it wasn't armoured ~ the windscreen and side glass damage give the game away...

It's been the law for the last 35 years in the UK so not exactly a new thing having to wear seat belts. He obviously thinks he's above the law. He's probably not realised yet how lucky he was not to be thrown from the vehicle. Defender 90XS SW

I'm not one to defend him really, but it's interesting to note that in terms of the time he has been driving, wearing a seat belt is a relatively new requirement.

Unfortunately, he doesn't help himself.
Accidents can happen, but you would have thought given the level of publicity, he would have at least put his belt on. Perhaps the royal fleet have had the seat belt warning lamps and chimes removed  |

What I take from it:
97 years old and a couple of days after being smashed into and his car rolled, he just brushes himself down and starts driving again. A credit to the safety features in the Freelander and a tough old bird. Has anyone on here never driven over a 30mph or a 70mph speed limit? If so, be the first to criticise. |

My input.....
Maybe he's not wearing a seatbelt because his doctor issued him with a sicknote stating he's severely bruised due to the crash 2 days earlier. Wonder if any news reporter has bothered to find out. As for not contacting the other party in the RTA....all the accidents I've been in,.I've never bothered to contact the other people. They get insurance details,. Job done. What, are they expecting the duke to pop round and check they're ok? In the news today the injured party are "considering legal action" .. So would I if I broke my wrist due to someone else's fault on the road; it'll just be insurance company vs. insurance company. Same as in any other case. |
