I have placed a 220V socket supplied by Calix and this powers block heater, cabin heater, battery charger as well as refrigirator (12/220V).

Would either of these fit the old air intake.

That first one looks like it might just work. Will need to see about getting a plate made up and a hole cut to suit but should be easy enough using the old grill as a template. Will just need to measure the depth of the space behind. If not then it will be the surface mount socket on the rear cross member. Thanks for all the links and suggestions. Keith |

A very interesting thread. I too would like to fit a 240v hook up for fridge running and battery charging on several day stops at campsites.
All of the info so far has been really useful, my only query being the suitability of these external mount connections with regard to water ingress. Are they reliably watertight ? Is there electrical risk if they are wet ? Or is the best option to install behind a watertight door. TIA Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

No no no and NO. That type of cable is called a widow maker for a reason. I see them occasionally as an event sparks and I chop them up into little pieces before presenting them back to their owner. I've recently fitted a neutrik powercon true1 to the rear quarter of mine, just below the sidelight. Much smaller than a 16A commando! It runs to a 4 way in the load space and has a charger connected, and gets used on said events for me to sit in the boot with my laptop and a coffee machine! |

Point taken on the male to male cable......
Could you share a photo of the powerCon port you fitted? Keith |

Powercon does look good, I wonder if you can get them with some sort of dust cap/cover for keeping them clean.
That will be this evening's internet searching...... Keith |

Yes and they won't get wet if you fit them correctly. They are the industry standard external fitting for single and 3 phase electrics...running them for your 12v/240v needs will be more than safe |

Lots of ideas and lots to think about, thanks all for sharing ideas and knowledge.
My favourite at the moment is the Powercon system. Based on the drawings and dimensions I reckon I should be able to install one of the dual inlet and outlet units where the engine air intake used to be in the wing. One of these: https://www.canford.co.uk/Products/42-0406...-connector Lets me run a cable onto the inlet with out the dual male plug issue identified and gives a convenient 240v outlet back out the vehicle if I want it. Now to find a local fabricator to make me a nice replacement for the KBX grille that I can get powder coated that will house the dual panel connector (ideally slightly recessed slightly into the wing to protect it from branches when off road) Keith |

They have also recently started making the top (total outdoor protection) variants, which have a higher IP rating.
I'll get a photo of mine up soon! Worth buying from rs, farnell or similar, there's a lot of counterfeit neutrik stuff on eBay and the like! |

I'd completely forgotton about Neutrik!
I still have a bundle of JBL Neutrik 8 connectors somewhere, although not the correct powercon version Good tip Miker |
