Thanks Retro,
That's a much better suggestion than any of mine I'll go and wrestle with it this morning. I guess I should have gone about the fitting early in the day when more alert and thinking straight. |

Well today turned out better than I expected after last nights drama.
I got the bulkhead mounted following advice from Retroanaconda. All the bolts bar the first needed some persuasion to fit in place. I also got the sill rails fitted. The passenger side looks good but the upper part of the drivers side needs to go forward a touch. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge While all that was going on I had a visit from a friend who was clearing out his garage having sold 2 90s. He gave me a full tilt and hoop set that had been lying unused for several years. So I now have the option of canvas, truck cab or hard top!! Click image to enlarge So I made a start on the build a while ago but progress has been slow rather than spectacular. Floors in, sills on and doors trial fitted. Spent a lot of time on the gearbox cover, trimming to fit and easing screw holes to line up with plugs. Had to clean excess galv from the pillars in order to get the hinge bolt captive nuts in. The stainless nuts are slightly larger than the mild steel version so I shaved a little off each side of the nut before giving the cage a squeeze in the vice in order to get them into the pillar. All very time consuming. Hopefully I can keep up the momentum and get a bit more done. |

Managed to fit clutch, brake, accelerator pedals and steering column.
Tidied up the loom at the back of the engine and got the fuel filter mounted again. One less box of bits on the floor and all the bolts found a home (eventually). Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Click image to enlarge Fitted the heater box today together with a new seal to the bulkhead. Seemed like a simple enough job but the new seal made it a bit more difficult than expected. It's not a task that I would want to do with all the bodywork in place. |

Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge While I have been working on the 90 I noticed that the radiator had a slight weep. Only a small amount of coolant leaked over the past year but I decided to deal with it while everything was stripped down. I took the rad out and on close inspection the core was badly corroded. I brought it to Carlow Radiators at lunch time Thursday and they carried out the recore and the courier delivered back to me on Saturday morning. Great service. I took the opportunity to clean and paint the rad frame, cooler ducting, fan cowl, chassis etc. Reinstalled it all today with new hose clips and coolant. Hopefully one less thing to worry about when out and about in future. Back to the rebuild now |
