Hey ho, it's a Defender so fix one thing and another pops by....
Since fitting the remap from BAS and getting the other work done, it's developed an occasional squeal on acceleration. Most noticeably off the mark from a cold start, but occasionally pops up at other times - but it is not there all the time. It sounds like air/gas to me, not belts or mechanical. Having looked around including reading a few threads on here, I'm thinking the manifold to turbo gasket, maybe the remap runs a higher turbo boost and that creates more exhaust back pressure, it has only started since the remap. However it seems to be left side of the engine bay from sitting in the driver seat, are there any other known issues that cause similar sounds? The problem is that it won't do it unless under load, so I can't easily diagnose it. I see there's a beefed up gasket from Nakatenanga but according to the eBay listing it's only suitable for 2.4 engines, what's the solution for the same problem on a 2.2 engine? --- 2006 Defender 110 SW 300Tdi • 2011 Ford Ranger XLT crewcab • 2015 Defender 110 Station Wagon Utility TDCi |

Anybody got ideas on this please? Still there mainly accelerating in 2nd/3rd, and it is still not possible to reproduce it unless the vehicle is moving. I'm not convinced it may not be there at higher speeds as well but road noise from MTs takes over. ---

Are you sure it's not the fan belt slipping?

I hadn't considered it, would have thought it was unlikely on a polyvee belt with just 10k miles on it, are they prone to this? ---

Exhaust gasket would be my thought, and the uprated gasket are only a temp fix from my experience.

That was my thought but the uprated exhaust gasket doesn't seem to exist for the 2.2, so I wondered if it wasn't needed. It started after the clutch and shaft were done (which was about a week after the remap) so maybe the downpipe got a smack when the gearbox was being taken out. ---
