Winter wiper blades
So,
Just had a dump of 10” of snow.
The Trico wiper blades immediately iced up and were only partially effective.
Anyone have any recommendations for wiper blades for winter?

Mudstuff's Silblades were fairly good, but I don't think they sell them anymore!

I don't think any wiper blades work well in ice and snow. Weather not as bad as you here in Scotland, but I have to use de-icer on the blades and screen and maximum concentration of windscreen washer fluid in those conditions.
I use LR wipers and RainX on the glass.
I also have a heated screen which is brilliant in keeping the screen clear of ice and snow.
If you don't have a heated screen it may be worth retrofitting one given your weather.
10" of snow would bring the UK to a complete standstill for weeks! Whistle

Thanks!
Yup i have an genuine fitted heated screen. Have to keep hitting the screen heat button during these conditions to keep the screen free....sometimes even with the heater selected to defrost setting.
Earlier this week, i had a 2-3” buildup of frozen slushy ice on the blades at the end of a 45min drive.
May try to search for 13” winter blades.....they are soft rubber encapsulated to shed any ice buildup.
Cheers
Patrick

Had Silblades fitted for 10 years and never really had any problems with them, apart from the usual Defender problem of them clearing an ever smaller area when it really starts to snow. Then again mine is 34 years old and has no modern aids

I had this problem one day last winter. Freezing fog and a slightly weak washer fluid solution don’t mix very well!

Bosch Aero ones did fine for me this March when we had our 4-5” in the South... granted I had the heated screen on full pelt and some pretty strong screenwash though.

I've been running Bosch Aero's with 50/50 Motul screenwash for years and all has been good. Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Rain X did wonders in the Beast from the East. First day the wipers froze even with heated screen on. Rain X that night and completely clear, I was shocked at the difference. James

In the US and Canada it is possible to buy electrically-heated blades but they don't seem to be availble in short enough sizes for Defenders.
