Hello everybody
I'm a new member and was pointed to this site by the guys at LRI Solutions, who certainly seem to know their stuff. I've just taken into stock a 2002 defender double cab pickup which is apparently one of the 2 preproduction factory model of the limited edition LE 500 or 500 LE double cab pickups that were made with a view to doing a production run of 500 examples. The specifics of this specification were: White body colour, fall leather interior front and rear, Central locking, electric windows, front external roll cage, Silver surrounds to the instrument dials a galvanised chassis from the factory... Yes, a galvanised chassis. I wonder what make them give that up as an idea. Apparently the plan to produce 500 units wasn't realised. Only a very few were made. There's another post on this topic here: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic35523.html The story goes that the model we have just taken into stock was bought by a member of the Land Rover design team instead of being deregistered and scrapped, and was put through the factory body shop again to be changed from the white to the wine red metallic in which is now painted. One can see the white paint underneath, and one can also see that it's been completely repainted professionally and were very high standard. What's very strange is that the chassis number is: SALLDBA572A##### , the #'s are my modification, for obvious security reasons. According to several aficionados the first A in the chassis number should be an H for a double cab pickup. Everything seems to be in order on the V5 and as far as I can see the vehicle has never had a chassis change. It had various other modifications and upgrades, such as a Puma bonnet et cetera, but I'd be delighted to receive further information and advice from anyone who knows the background to the story and this particular vehicle. I'm told that the factory made a limited edition for the American market in 1998 to 2000, but this would appear to be a different project and a different edition |

Try plugging your VIN into the site below and see what you get. Also LR NEVER brought any Defenders into North America in 1998-2000. The last ones were NAS D90s in 1997.

Sounds interesting!
What’s the condition and mileage. How much do you think it’s worth? |

That sounds like it's a forerunner of the Defender Black, which came out in '02 with a very similar spec. (except in black, of course). There were eventually 250 registered in the UK with more sent abroad. Darren
