Complete EGR removal
Hi,

I have decided that it's the high time to get rid of the EGR in my 2007 Puma.

I have disconnected the plug from the EGR valve - errors in ECU but no MIL light. Acceptable for now. After I will try to reprogram the ECU.

About the physical removal - I would like to remove this piece of junk completely - the EGR valve and the EGR cooler (it's just occupying space and making access to for example the starter motor worse). I have the blanking plates both for the EGR cooler (3) and the EGR valve (4) but, as I said, I would like to remove it entirely and now the problem of the metal tube (1) with the MAP sensor appears.

Can I buy a blanked tube with the sensor port? I have found some on eBay but without a hole for MAP. Or do I need to cut the original and close it somehow? Also a bypass tube to remove the cooler is necessary.

Is there any complete "removal kit"? Bergos

To remove the cooler just disconnect the coolant hoses and join them together.

For the inlet, it's stainless steel, just cut the pipe off and have someone weld the hole up.

Let us know how it all works out and what exactly to do if it does work. Looking to ditch my EGR as well as it's causing more problems than it's worth.

Any drawbacks to this though even if it works?

Cannot see any. Just the MOT thing, which in my case is not a case Smile
I've removed the EGR 8 years ago in my D2 Td5. No problems and measured emissions are below spec.

I can see only positives, especially after seeing my intake manifold:

EGR-Valve-Round-Cooler-End-Type-Blanking-K...4-3-2-TDCi

Plus a custom made blanking plate for the inlet side.


It's a half-measure as you stay with the blanked, hanging pipe going to the inlet manifold.

Removing the whole EGR cooler and valve took me around 2 hours, on the street in Portuguese sun. Wink

I needed to seal the blanking plates with heat resistant silicone, because they were whistling while driving.

Also... I needed to reprogram the ECU not to lit the Check Engine light after 3 starts. And that was the expensive part... Bergos
