Another good video
Looks like they hit the market in March 2019 and the diesel version in 2020.

Although I am a die hard Land Rover fan, I've never been one for 'bashing' other brands of 4x4, especially those with real credibility such as Wranglers / Land Cruisers / Hi Lux / Patrols etc.

I'm currently trying to sell my Disco 2 to buy a 130, but if there was no such thing as Land Rover, I think I would be looking to import a 70 Series Land Cruiser from Germany or possibly Gibraltar. I'm a big fan of the 79 Series double cab and watch them with great interest on various Youtube channels; that said I have never driven one, but I think a 70 Series Cruiser is as close as you can get to a utility Defender if you want to buy something new.

All the normal double cab pick ups (Ranger, D-Max, Hi Lux, Amarok etc) have their place, but the Cruisers appear to be a bit stronger and of simpler construction.

I have always liked the look of the AEV Brute though - essentially the after market version of a Wrangler built into an extra long wheelbase doublecab pick up, which is, it seems, being offered by Jeep as factory spec now in the updated shape.

As has been said though, quite pricey by the look of it.

All nice eye candy either way!

I dont mind if anyone here bashes the jeep. I love to argue and have fun.

I am guessing the base model gladiator sport model will have a $38-40k pricetag. It is expensive but be thankful because in the US, a 25 year old defender with 50-100k miles in good condition will go for about the same or more and not hold a candle to the modern wrangler or defender. Iam hoping the 3.0 ecodiesel will be a good powerplant. I know nothing about it other than it's been in previous non wrangler models.

I've never even owned a diesel but jeep wrangler owners have been begging for a diesel for a decade or more. Diesel is more expensive in the US sometimes by a dollar per gallon. Regular gasoline prices have been going down for weeks now and this morning it was $1.99/gallon. The US government really hates diesel for some reason. I am hoping that the president takes an axe to the EPA and other bloated agencies and takes them down a couple of pegs.

The whole of Europe hates diesel now, after years of promoting it as a way of cutting CO2 emissions. Rolling Eyes
It turns out it was all false claims and blatant lies.
I'm surprised that just as the rest of the world is turning away, the US market for diesel is expanding.

Great to hear the gas price is coming down.
I can't wait for my next US road trip in some V6 gasoline Jeeps Very Happy

That's interesting. I always assumed Europe favored diesel because fuel economy was better than petrol.

If your ever in southern Ohio give me a shout and you can take my wrangler for a spin.

20" longer wheelbase than the JL Unlimited - that makes it 140" which is huge!

People preferred diesel because the fuel taxes made running any large car or 4x4 very expensive. The better fuel economy of a diesel certainly helps when you're paying £6.00 a gallon or more. That's somewhere between $7.50 to $9.00 depending on the fuel price and exchange rates in recent years.

The U.K. Government promoted the sale and use of diesel cars for around 18 years by reducing vehicle tax (Road Tax or Vehicle Excise Duty, call it what you like, it's a tax for owning a car) for those with lower CO2 emissions. Lower CO2 was the main focus to reduce climate change effects.
Now it turns out the diesels we were sold produce lots of carcinogens, other nasty things and the CO2 benefits were exaggerated. There's plans to ban diesel from some cities to clean up the air pollution.
So the love of diesel is over.

Thanks for the offer of the Jeep ride.
We're going from Denver to Las Vegas with a Grand Cherokee, via Moab and the Easer Jeep Safari.

I think benefit in kind taxation for company car users was heavily stacked in favour of diesel for a long time too.

There’s some good pics of the Gladiator on Auto Express today. It looks superb. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

One of these with a demountable camper body in the pickup bed would be great.

It's just been reported on the BBC news that the new Wrangler has achieved a magnificent one star safety rating at Thatcham, a dismal score for a new £50k vehicle (BBC's reported price).

That is however one star more than the Fiat Panda, only the second car in history to be awarded zero stars (the other was also a Fiat).

These are bad results for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
Punto, no stars 2017
Panda, no stars 2018
Wrangler, 1 star 2018

I can't find any evidence that Thatcham have tested a Defender.
The dummy probably refused to to get in.
