Hi there!
Coming back from vacations.... Saddly with the car towing 
When the clutch were depressed and try to change the gear an strange noise appear. The car is just in the dealer and they said that the problem is the clutch (my impression also) Well, just to have the argument to discuss with them that the failure is "normal" in this model I would like to know of many of you had problems with the clutch and has been repaired under guarantee. 3 years for all the car except user service parts such as the brakepads.
A clutch should last for 70k easy Mike |

EDUARDO,
Mine went in at 16.500 miles release bearing clutch flywheel dealear had no problems with changing it, Everything 3 years except service parts

Not the first time I hear about the clutch! Anybody knows what the problem is? Any "typical bulletin service" on this matter (yet)?

My slave cylinder failed twice - had a call from dealer this pm to collect my baby tomorrow am.
Hope they sorted all the faults I listed for them to attend. Somehow doubt it though  Puma 110 - gone

Ok, thanks. Still looks a bit obscure. Did you experiment any of those symptoms? or the pump failed?

New clutch flywheel & release bearing
mine was in 8 days, could have fitted it faster myself and i no nothing about machanics,

i had the new type fitted after clutch changes at 6 and 12 thousand now 18 thousand no problems so far
new type came our 08/08 daniel |

Just collected mine an hour ago.
They changed the slave cylinder again. Said noisy gearbox rattle at low revs is a "landrover thing" and mine was far less noisy then the other units on the floor. Asked them to put it in writing and they said I should rather have LR south africa have a listen and make sure they concur. They are supposed to be here later in the week. Lets hope the noise is normal after all so I can sleep easier at night and not worry that something breaks day after warenty expires. Puma 110 - gone Series III 1973 - going strong |

So far the clutch mechanism shows the following problems:
1) clutch plate and clutch cover (part URB500080) 2) perhaps the release bearing 3) slave cylinder anything else? MK Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |

The noise they are referring to as being quite normal at low revs I am assuming is when your travelling in 1st with no accelaration. This clattering sound used to happen on my 300TDi and also happens on my Puma which has covered 31k with no clutch replacement. I wouldn't worry about tuning into sounds like that as Defender's whether you like it or or not have all got old techonolgy when it comes to the drive train. The LT230 transfer box is probably 20 years old in design and as far as the axles and diffs probably 30 years +. |
