I would say it's the dreaded vcv valve playing up. Plenty of information on here about it.

Thanks again. Iβve done a search but canβt see whether it is only a prob from cold or whether it is an issue when warmed up.....the fault only occurred this evening but I have a long journey on Saturday that requires the land rover, plus some moderate off roading.....

Faulty EGR can also causing issues, as can MAF and MAP and VCV. The latter not often showing DTC's if checked.
What status is your EGR, active or blanked? If active have you had any issues with it. Tryi cleaning your MAP and MAF sensors, this can do no harm either way they may need a clean. When was the fuel filter last changed? Are your fuel tank breather pipes in good condition? (Possible fuel contamination if not.) If all of these things seem okay, then it could well be the VCV as mentioned. Although I do think many can jump to conclusions that it is, I have had similar symtoms at times year ago but never was the VCV but many other things. Also check your air filter isn't heavily soiled and also consider trying a fuel additive such as Millers Diesel additive. If it is the VCV, it should help or at least keep it going okay just for now till you can sort it. If you can't get your hands on any Millers as soon as you need it, just try some Super diesel instead. This is assuming you don't use it, you may well already do so. The clutch switch is another's possible culprit too, but will only show as a DTC if plugged. If you have access to diagnostics, that's what I would do straight away. Many thanks Steve - great advice.
I'm trying to get it looked at asap as i need to do a long journey on Saturday that will involve some off-roading. Unfortunately i don't have a diagnostics tool but with the bad luck I'm having with this vehicle i should probably invest in one.....faulty fuel pump, faulty ABS modulator/Traction Control unit (2.4k to replace ![]() Thanks again Mark |

Yip, EGR stuck in open position will give major loss of power. If it happens again, listen out for the chakka chakka chakka when you turn off the car, if you don't hear it, it's stuck (if that makes no sense search the forum for EGR issues) - keep in mind that if you do hear it, it doesn't mean it's not playing up.
VCV yes certainly. Annoying job, but you'll get there, lots of discussion here regarding it. MAF/MAP easy to access, may as well give em a clean and check as a matter of course ![]() |
