They'll say its a right off surely???
I hope not! but if the damage is more than 25% of the cars value they just write it off, and as that needs a new tub etc, its probably to costly for the insurance. *NOTE*( % is a guess as I cant remember the actual figures but I remember it was less than half the value anyways...)

Sorry this has happened to you. absolutely gutted for you.

Do you think it can be hammered back out? Id be arguing that, at least you'd get to keep it...
I always argued that as its your vehical you get to keep it anyway, but someone said that when they pay out it becomes the property of the insurance?!?!? Regards
Adam

The 3rd parties insurance will want to write that off, as whilst the cost of parts won't be overly expensive (a lot of bodyshops use "recycled" parts to keep cost down, the cost of

A) the cost of putting you in a replacement vehicle will kill the repair cost
B) the cost of cutting the body to fit the side locker will be a "specialism" and will kill the the repair cost.
C) it's ruined the rear cross member as a minimum

Either way there won't be many bodyshops willing to touch it as they know nothing will be square/simple and the man hours involved won't be worth their while.

But, it's not your fault, so stand your ground, make sure it goes to a body shop of your choosing and get it repaired to a standard your happy with 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

What did the driver of the car say? And how the hell did he not see the Defender, it also looks like because of the damage the driver was moving faster in that area than perhaps they should have..

With the cross member having been bent it is a good chance the legs of the chassis has also been. You can buy a quarter chassis to replace but add the value of one with all the other body parts and the cost of respraying and it may be a right off. It all depends what the assessor values the car at. Good luck with everything and do not accept the first offer, haggle then haggle again.

Not sure it matters about the yellow line as the accident does not appear to have happened on a public highway but on a private area so rules do not apply. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Thanks all I thought they would write it off like Rosco says I think the labour costs will totally out way the materials definitely going to hold my ground on it I've spent to much on it (respire etc) to lose it as a write off now Big Cry

Yes I was parked on the yellow line but within the allotted time the accident was @ 3.30pm and the times are 4.00-6.00pm

Just need to sort another temporary van van now

Push your insurers to sort you a replacement vehicle, or failing that engage an accident management business. They'll get you a vehicle within a couple of hours as they don't want to miss out on an extra days hire 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

I believe if they're looking to go down the route of a write off I believe monetary value is not the only option but you can insist on a replacement similar in spec.

I don't know this for sure but if it's true then they may find a replacement difficult and that'll bring you back to getting yours repaired. also bear in mind finding something similar might be quite expense making it a right off less likely.

I'd be inclined to start having a look and push some expenses variants under the inspectors nose so he knows what he's dealing with.

whatever - good luck.

That’s a shame.

Remember you are claiming against the other drivers insurance, not yours. They cannot ‘write off’ your car without your agreement, and legally they (on behalf of the driver) are obliged to return your vehicle to the state it was in before the accident either through repair or replacement. If this means a new chassis then so be it.

Christ how hard did they hit you!! What an utter penis.

Could always take the value off the insurance (fight for it!) Then buy it back and repair it, depending on the damage that is. Instagram @defender_ventures
