Genuine LR Mantec Swing Away conundrum
So, finally got around the getting it fitted a whole year after Dan supplied and there appears to be a puzzle Rolling Eyes

If I fit the Wolf's straight onto the studs then the back of the wheel does not fully locate onto the unthreaded part of the studs, so if I fit a nut on the back to keep the tyre off the carrier then the threaded studs are too short to fit the nuts on even half way. I know the HD wheels are thicker but it's more then that.

So, what am I doing wrong and/or what is the solution.

Part number is VPLDR0130 and these were ordered for steel wheels so assume that is what I got.

I'm thinking this would solve, but is it necessary Question

Any help much appreciated Thumbs Up Rob

What tyres do you have fitted? It's possible that it only works as designed if the tyres are 7.50's, which were the standard fitment on the Wolf wheel. If you've 235/85's or even wider then they won't sit in the same place.

Having said that, if the tyre is clamped tightly to the carrier and all other clearances are ok (rear wiper?), then I wouldn't worry about it. Land Rover wheels sit quite happily on the threaded studs on just about every standard wheel carrier bracket they've ever made. Darren

I haven't tried it with my Wolfs, but it doesn't work properly with 7.50s on a standard steel wheel either. I've put nuts on backwards to hold the wheel out a bit and accepted that the main nuts on the outside doesn't fully engage.

Thanks LRA - tyres are 235's.

So, if I understand your point it would correct for the tyre to be against the carrier and then tighten the nuts even though the back of the wheel would not be up tight to the unthreaded part of the carrier stud?

Cupboard - seems like they aren't fit for purpose which seems odd Whistle

Any thoughts on the alloy extenders Question

Just wondering - Could you put the wheel on back to front?

Nick, I tried that and it does solve the problem but leaves the wheel a long way away from the back door which doesn't feel right and I'd need a spare wheel cover which has never been my preference.

Thanks Paul, I'll give those a go, though it does seem there may be no happy compromise between the tyre not touching the carrier and leaving enough stud to get the nuts properly on.

Yes, exactly. In fact, given what Cupboard says about the fit with 7.50's, it's almost certainly designed to be like that. The dimensions of these things have remained unchanged for decades, so if there was a problem it would have become apparent long before now. Darren

I have the same carrier, although supplied by Mantec it isn’t the same as the commercially available mantec carrier- this appears to be one of the limitations.

I have my HD steel wheel (with 235/85r16) on the door backwards to solve it, it’s not an issue for me - although I do need to get the inside of the wheel painted! 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2

I had a similar problem, the 235/85 on boosts would clash with the frame before the wheel studs went tight.

i bought the £30 adapters you linked too on Ebay, works a treat although the tyre could be a little tighter on the carrier. there is about a 1" gap as it sits now.
