I would suggest that 15 minutes idling from stone cold is not particularly good for a diesel engine. |

It can damage the bores through glazing, with no load and thus cold temperate internally. Low chance I would say, but nonetheless diesels like being worked hard. They’re happiest under load |

Ultimately, if you want a quick warm-up, fit a V8!

Hi buddy, Its been bugging me about this idling business, so I have been doing a bit of digging, ill continue to dig until I source some solid trustworthy advice... But I found this... https://www.quora.com/Do-diesel-engines-ne...of-minutes --particularly this section-- The one other feasible time (other than just using the engine as a generator of electricity) would be warming up on a cold day. A diesel does not combust well cold. Letting it warm up, unlike a gasoline engine, can be better for it and its emissions systems because, even though its not burning well at idle in the driveway, putting more fuel in the system, though drastically reducing heating time, will be drastically introducing soot to the particulate filter. This doesn’t mean idle the truck for 45 minutes till its toasty warm… just a few minutes to get the metal directly around the combustion chambers hot. Also, plug it in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ which confused me its kind of saying its good and bad Regards Adam Loving The Duchess The Defender 110 TD5 XS My Defender story - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic64005.html |

Mine has had....
Heater matrix replaced, it was part blocked. New cap on the expansion bottle. Cooling system flushed. Heater adjusted. All gaps taped up with silver tape so less draughts. New fan with a bulge blower on the inlet to the fan. The adjustable knee height vents from the guy on here. The whole motor is dynamic matted. I don't put the heaters on till they start blowing warm 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car) 2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |

Some time ago I found a diascussion where they mentioned that in the freelander the same model thermostat is fitted.
From LRDirect:"Thermostat housing with part number PEL500110 fits to the Freelander 1 with the 1.8 petrol engines and also to the Discovery 2 from 02" If you look at this site, you see that there are three different types/opening temperatures. https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/pel500110 A few degrees makes a big difference. |

Mine is nice and toasty, gets warm when the temp gauge just leave blue.
I've found that the blower only wants to work on the bottom three settings, which is ever, So much blow you can't open your eyes, Middle whish is noisy, or lowest which does little but trickle heat through mmmmm heat so toasty you could nap... The blower is only 2 speed so only the bottom two settings will work The movement of the slider above this opens and closes the air flap on the back of the heater box. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |
