Seems like the new Defender may be a 'family' of cars including an EV!

I don’t think there is any surprise, I’m sure Land Rover have said this themselves. I can see two or three different basic sizes of Defender to run alongside the others ranges rather than a specific Defender platform. A small one using the Evoque/Disco Sport Platform and bigger ones using Disco and Range Rover platforms. Not exactly sure how many different platforms Land Rover have, can’t be more than three can it? Then there’ll be choice of wheelbase and body style within at least some of those broad categories. What gets released next year will be just the beginning.
I think the biggest problem Land Rover have got is the risk cannibalising their own sales with too many similar vehicles. There’s a lot of eggs in one basket. Jaguar aren’t really pulling their weight compared LRs I don’t think which is a problem for them. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

"The new one coming out in 2019 was developed to feel, sound, and drive like a true 21st-century luxury SUV. It will be available with features like adaptive cruise control and hill descent control, and you can safely bet your next paycheck on the fact that the Defender will have a massive touchscreen in the center console. Bluetooth connectivity and voice commands? Check and check. Well-equipped models will even boast creature comforts like leather-upholstered heated seats and, possibly, a digital instrument cluster, features the original truck could only dream of. Credible rumors claim it will ride on a unibody platform instead of using a body-on-frame architecture, but Speth stressed it will still be “exceptional.” " -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

According the the cleaner up my local pub (her son knows a bloke that once sat in a Defender) there will be.
Three body lengths with various body options SW, Pick Up and Van and each length will have three options on spec these being basic farmer spec middle of the range and top luxury I suppose S, SE and HSE with the occasional limited edition SVO, SVA and Autobiography appearing now and then. 130's have feeling's as well you know |

Andrew... critically, we need to know what sort of Defender he sat in...
90? 110 or even 130? ...and what level of trim? I think he’s managed to absorb a lot of the coming DNA and you might be pretty close to the truth! |

I don't think there is any "maybe" about a family of Defenders. Gerry McGovern has stated on numerous occasions that Land Rover will have three families, Range Rover, Discovery and Defender. So nothing new here I'm afraid. Defender 90XS SW

So the Range Rover remains the Range Rover, what was the Freelander is now mysteriously the Discovery, and I suspect that the new Defender will be the equivalent of the old Discovery.
Nothing wrong with this except it won't actually be the equivalent of the old Defender. |

I'd not heard of a possible Sport model (L860) from any other source before or a battery electric version either so it was news to me. 2015 Defender 90XS HT

"The Defender Sport is still a long way out. But L860 has our full attention because, similar to Defender, it has the premium entry-level outdoors niche all to itself."
BS, the new Wrangler is priced £44 to £49k before options. That's at least one more "premium entry-level outdoors" vehicle. Also what does he mean by "artificially aspirated" ?? Any self respecting motoring enthusiast would have said "forced induction". At least we know it's not a 2.5d (non turbo) Defender! I'm getting sick of waiting to find out how disappointed I'll be with this new vehicle. |

I heard the disco has already caused uproar in JLR by competing with the RR sub brand, and that JLR had serious discussions about canning it because the cost to produce is higher than some RRs but the production to OHP value was Lower, hence why JLR recently came out with a discovery commercial to keep the Land Rover main brand alive. Honestly some of the article sounded really exciting, “Electrically charged turbo?” Sounds amazing, but just you wait until this damn turbo ends up costing £10,000 extra. I really want a 90 with 1L fox hybrid engine Allbeit in diesel. That body shape though, it’s absolutely atrocious, I don’t want to look like a WAG hairdresser who’s married to a drug dealer in tron or iRobot or something like that. I want boxes!
