Thanks Pickles, that’s similar here in the UK currently.
It will be a reluctant sale if I do part with my HUE as it will be the first time I haven’t had a LR in the drive. |

It is worth seeing how many actually sell at those prices. If you stalk eBay you can see the same vehicles for sale for a long time which keep circling around unsold.

I never think of eBay for vehicles but did just take a look and the only genuine Heritage models are the same as on Autotrader and PistonHeads. Still no HT models so all those have either sold or withdrawn from sale? I can see why private sellers would take off the market but dealers generally advertise until sold?

Maybe. I think they are a bit like property- they get over exposed and taken off sale for a while. The lack of Heritage for sale right now could also be down to sellers waiting for the weather to get colder and / or waiting to complete service no 3 and associated end of warranty work.

However this look more like it: https://www.automart.co.za/cars/land-rover...id-4843056
Yes it is in SA, but with the rand to gbp exchange rate it costs about £41k. No idea on shipping fees or import costs but it is a better spec than the UK version, not least for the aircon. |

So aside from a badge and paint job, what is different about them over a standard Def?

I thought I'd do the sum for you as I know a bit about this! R779,900 / 1.15 = R678,174 (Less local tax, like VAT) R678,174 / 18.5550 = £36,549 (into pounds at today's rate) £36,549 + 1000 = £37,549 (approx local agent fee) £37,549 + £2,000 = £39,549 (approx shipping) £39,549 x 1.1 = £43,504 (plus duty) £43,504 x 1.2 = £52,205 (plus VAT) Notes : in SA you can always get the "VAT" element back on a car purchase, no matter what the age. Shipping costs change daily. If the car has been out of Europe for more than 3 years (all Defenders in SA) then you have to pay EU duty again. This is the cost!!! But in reality getting it registered is the trick! SA cars run to a different emmission standard and really should have a DPF fitted and a remap. Also to be legally registered they need a new speedo. So about £2,500 worth of physical mods and then you would need somebody who REALLY knows what they are doing to register it! Expect to pay them about £2,000 plus reg fees of around £500 to the DVLA. So it all adds up!! |

I have just sold a Hard Top that had only 200 miles on the clock (I had 2 and the one I've kept is converted by Twisted and I love it!!) mine sold quickly and easily for £50,000. Sad to see it go but I needed the space for a new member of the family! |
