My money would be on a D3/D4 depending on budget, particularly if you need to lever aged relatives into the vehicle as you can utilise the air suspension to assist!
Yes, there will be ongoing repair costs but I think (unless you find an absolutely immaculate version, at a matching price point...) D2’s are now starting to lose money faster than a Labour budget.... |

Td5 d2’s are great I run one as well as the 110. As well as the usual chassis issues mentioned before make sure it’s still running air suspension and that the ace works and hasn’t been removed as it makes them so much better. The ace pipes can be a bit pricey to replace but it’s worth it.

As previously mentioned above. I would buy a Freelander 2. Great vehicles and the most reliable one I’ve ever bought. Only got rid of it at over 150thou miles as was given a car for free, otherwise it would still be on the drive.
If your wife thinks a 110 is too big I can’t see her being happy in a D3-4, they are huge, and horrendous on fuel doing anything but motorway miles. Freelander 2, nice remap, auto or manual, is a brilliant all purpose vehicle. Deals with passengers, good load luggger, nice size or parking, good on fuel, don’t leak, don’t suffer chassis rust Andy |

Potentially It would make perfect sense Andy. However I'm sorry, but I find the freelander 2 rather beige. A move away from the green oval gives you more sensible and economic options. As for its replacement......... oh dear
