Hello Forum, I need some advice, I have a 2012 2.2 Puma defender double cab, seems to be a starter issue. I have a strong battery, the motor turns over, I give it some diesel but she just won't start. Over the last 2 weeks every odd moment she wouldn't start, few turns of the key and then she takes. Now she's as dead as a doornail. Any pointers if its fuses, starter motor etc. Had it serviced not so long ago but now I'm stuck.

Are the needles in the gauges doing anything funny?
I've had starting issues like you describe that were down to a loose relay. I took them all out, gave them a wiggle and it fired right up. A couple of weeks later it started doing it again so I took out half the relays to narrow it down, etc etc. Eventually I found it was the main relay that powers all the electronics. The final time it played up the car started fine, I drove 100m and then it suddenly cut out. Took the relay out, tightened the terminals, put it back and I haven't had any issues since. |

Thank you, no the needles all work like normal, so will have a look this morning and also check all the fuses and remove them all to check contact and if nothing get it towed to my local Land Rover in Cape Town and have them check using their diagnostics..
It worked fine the day before and drove like normal too. I have tried to google relay drawings etc re the fuse box but no real luck so I'll take them all out one by one. |

Have a look at this thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic20997.html or use the search function with "workshop manual" will bring up many more results... http://www.defender2.net/forum/search.php?...rch_time=0 Edit: was about 3 blocks away from you yesterday morning in Silverhill Crescent ![]() Douglas Adams 2012 2.2 Puma |

Long shot, but check the fuel filter and drain any water out if there is any.
I had a similar problem, drained out water and it started fine after that. Service guys and myself sometimes forget to drain. |

Do pumas suffer any immobiliser issues? Just thinking out loud.

Oh, yes, and how!
A very common problem, the passive immobiliser is a pain in the backside. |

What blackwolf said!
Also, as I may be experiencing, maybe air is getting into your fuel system? Also, blackwolf recommended that the crankcase position sensor and the camshaft position sensor be checked as well to see if they're still working properly. |

I've taken the defender to Land Rover in Tokai, and again more testing and it just won't do the same thing it does on the open road...
I think its the immobilizer above any fuel issue. After contamination from a local Total garage and having the entire fuel system cleaned, new injectors replaced by Bosch Deisel it runs proper, no matter the road... Took it through the Ceres Mountains on bad roads and she just drove like a dream, so it's definitely not a wiring short issue or a fuse contact issue, so I think I need to have someone disconnect the immobilizer. I don't think the OEM has any qualified guys to really sort this out... |
