I'd guess 15-22mpg.. Auto plus brick like aero.
for eg : My 4.6 on Saturday did a 50 mile round trip, plus an hour trundling around lanes on a treasure hunt and did £50 fuel. |

Probably wouldn't go auto but keep it manual so a little bit gained there.
I'd have thought being a modern engine it should manage a little more than an old Land Rover engine. Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |

I've spoken to as many people as possible who have an LS and I was expecting 30-35 answers, but not from what I hear.
Let's hope somebody comes along with an answer for you. |

Interesting, I'm slightly surprised by that. But then again it is an American engine... Ed

That's a big ouch Greeni! If my mathematics is correct: £50 @ £1.30/litre --> 38.5 litres --> 8.46 UK gallons 50 miles using 8.46 gallons is 5.9 mpg. I hope I get better than that from mine! 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

Reminds me of when Nige said he went laning. Couple of hundred miles and a 500 quid bill but big grin. He does have a 5+l John Eales engine. Ed

I suspect the trouble is similar to why my BAS170 remap hasn't delivered better mpg, it's just too much fun driving with a heavy right foot. In truth I never work out mpg has I don't want to know.
My old 3.5V8 90 often returned 9mpg I suspect your answer is a long range secondary fuel tank and a big smile I look forward to hearing more... I get around 10-12MPG on average, can just about squeeze about 15MPG out of it on a good run but don't get many of those. You don't put an engine like that in a car and then chug around at tick over all day scared of using the power !
If you take the amount of air it sucks in during each revolution then calculate how much fuel it takes to keep the mixture of air and fuel in the right ball park, a 5.7 lit engine or bigger is going to use more fuel just ticking over than something with half the capacity. It may not be stressed very often or even get much above 3000 RPM very often BUT even at idle it will sup more fuel than a small engine running at 3 times the RPM. Mine went through an emissions test today with flying colours, it's burning the fuel really efficiently and the emissions are really low... still supping a lot of fuel to do that though ! http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I wouldn't be buying an LS3 conversion for its MPG! My friend has one in a 110 and gets 18mpg on a good run. He has now added a 120 litre fuel tank!

Thanks for the info. I was more curious than anything. Determined to make the most of V8s before they're banned
Dave - valid comment on fuel air mixture. It just comes slightly into play when the nearest petrol station is 50 miles away and not necessarily open at the time I normally arrive in the Highlands! Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |
