Ive always worn wellies for shooting but have done a huge amount of beating on the grouse this year so used some Harkila boots from John Norris and they are like gloves. Now only if I was shooting in the very worst conditions and not walking very far would I go back to Wellies - if so Le Chameau are the way to go.

I am saving for these moorland boots : all the game keepers are rating them very very well for comfort and durability. Nice also that it is a small brand. https://deditoshootingwear.com/shop/dedito-boots-model-moorland/

When I go beating across heavy and sticky Essex clay, the wet mud builds up over the top of the boot and up the ankles, so I want smooth leather to make it easy to wash off.

My boots also get attacked by thick brambles, spiky bits of wood and sharp stones.

What do I wear?

Army surplus leather boots.

They take a beating.(Sorry for the pun).

I've looked in the expensive "outdoorwear" catalogues, but I don't need to pay for a fashion label.

Save the joints and put some sorbothanes in them.

I don't think all boots are fashion labels, but a lot are.

I have probably done a fair few more miles than most in boots. Issue are good but have limitations ie cushioning, they however are quick drying and quick to wear in.

For straight out of the box, reliable, boot for hill work I found lowa and altberg offerered a better fit with more cushioning for my feet and needs when at the time I was averaging 25miles a day.

Hanwag make good rigid boots for harsher climates and have excellent options for crampons.

Scrapa are also well worth looking at for a good reliable basic boot. Cheers

Lowa here as well. Very well made, warm and comfortable out of the box and probing very hard wearing.

Well a pair of Ariat conquest as recommended earlier arrived today

I liked the look of them, they are smarter in appearance than a traditional heavy walking boot, and could be easily worn in formal situations. They fit like a glove and are comfy straight out the box, they won't need breaking in !! however will they be waterproof??

find out next week !!
