Perhaps you auto electric wizards can evaluate my idea...
I have a 110 double cab so no rear washer, switch or pump however the rear wash wiring should be present behind the dash blanking switch If I mount my winch switch (https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/genuine-style-tdci-td5-switch-winch.html) in the centre console, plugged up to the redundant rear washer connector in the dashboard then activating the winch switch should make live the rear washer pump connector in the engine bay. I can then take this live feed and extend it as the exciter for my winch isolator solenoid, back to earth. The idea behind this is that I don't have to disturb the factory wiring. Any thoughts on why this wouldn't work? |

It should work fine. I used the RWW switch for my headlamp washers.
On an '07 all the wiring is present and if you choose the right switch (ie a latching one rather than non latching) then you will switch on the spare connector adjacent to the screenwasher pump. This is quite capable of switching a relay (my super heavy duty pumps are both relayed now). |

Only thing is don't you want a two way circuit? Winch in and winch out? I'd hazard a guess it's only one way for the washer pump. Ed

Is this just to control an isolator or the in/out solenoids?

It's for the isolator solenoid sako so he just needs a make and break circuit to operate it on and off. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

The Mudstuff switches are based on the auxiliary lights switch, which is an earth-switching switch, using the black 5-way connector.
This isn't compatible with your Defender's rear washer wiring for two reasons - 1. The rear washer switch switches an ignition switched live from pin 1 to pin 4. The Mudstuff switch switches a relay's coil to earth from pin 1 to earth on pin 4. 2. The Mudstuff switch uses a black 5-way connector. Your Defender's rear washer wiring will have a blue 5-way connector on it. There are a couple of ways around this - 1. Use a heated rear screen switch body, with your Mudstuff switch front on it. The heated rear screen switch is wired the same as the rear washer switch, it latches, and it uses the blue connector. 2. Swap the blue connector on your Defender's wiring for the black one that comes with the Mudstuff switch, and modify the switch's internal layout to turn it into a live-switching switch. The blue connector's terminals are easily released, in order insert them into the black connector. The internal modifications to the switch are a small cut in the brass track to separate pin 3 from pin 4, and a link from pin 4's track to pin 5's track, to enable the tell-tale LED. Paul's suggestion "Use a heated rear screen switch body, with your Mudstuff switch front on it" is sounding like the most straightforward solution at the moment. I will get some bits ordered and report back As clarified, this is just for the winch isolator switch. Winch control will be by the hand held remote Thanks once again, this has saved me much head scratching!! |

Paul Mc - just to clarify; "the heated rear screen switch uses the blue connector" ... only the loom connector is blue right? The switch body itself is black? (I am on ebay and the switch is black)

Can anyone help me out with the name/type of plug/connector used for the rear washer pump? So I can make up a patch lead for my isolator solenoid

IIRC it is a standard 2-pin Econoseal connector of the female gender.
