Just resurrected this, as I’m thinking about one if they are effective. Dust in Morocco was horrendous last time.

Pre filters do work.
Simplest prefilter? Well at the risk of being declared non PC nylon stockings/ tights be they yours, your partner/wife/husband/mother/father/etc. Yes the finest denier tights over the snorkel works fine. ARB used to do a pre filter sock which was at the top of the down pipe. So a good prefilter works and helps to keep main filter cleaner. If driving in convoy in dusty conditions drop back so you are in clean air. That might mean a couple of hundred metres + between vehicles. Brendan |

It works extremely well and even in normal use collects far more crud that you expect, all of which would otherwise end up in the air filter. It also ensures that moisture doesn't get into the filter and allows the safe removal of the unsatisfactory and restrictive factory centrifugal separator.
Landrovers have always had centrifugal prefilters if some kind, there is a reason for this and I would not be without one. A centrifugal prefilter will remove far more crud and be far less restrictive than a gauze or mesh filter (and the latter will do nothing to remove water, of course). |

Such a great and cheap way to filter out the BIG stuff. These photos were taken after just 2 hours driving. It was amazing how many bugs were caught in the tights. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
