Older versions say it on. I have a 48 spline version going spare.
My new 36 spline doesn't have it on, I expect Optimil had a few older versions returned. |

When you say "TUV approved" what paperwork did you get with it to detail what they actually meant by that? |

It was some time ago when I purchased the qd boss and I can’t remember receiving any paperwork but the Murray Motorsport website quotes the following “Protected by European Community Design No. 001634429-0001.

Thanks - I've had a look at their website:
http://snapoff.com/ - there's plenty of mention of design protection but I can't see any reference to TUV approval. They have a Technical section for "Documentation on all products and application documentation are downloadable." but it's empty It's interesting that they state "The perfect anti – theft device!" on one of the pages but if you look at the UK IVA Inspection manual , it actually states: "A manually operated battery master switch or a removable steering wheel would not be considered to be an anti-theft device." I only reference IVA as this seems the easiest way to look at aftermarket components and see if they would meet the requirements to register a vehicle for road use here albeit there is a caveat even here: "The design and construction requirements applicable to road vehicles are contained within the Road Vehicles (Approval) Regulations 2009 as amended. The inspection procedures within this manual have been developed to assess as far as practicable the ability of the vehicle to comply with those Regulations. This manual is however not a legal interpretation of the Regulations. The issue of an Individual Approval Certificate (IAC) should not be taken as absolute evidence that the vehicle can legally be used on the road, since there may be other applicable requirements contained in other Regulations." Additionally, in said Regulations it is very clear: "If any anti-theft device is, or incorporates, any mechanical device that acts upon a system that affects the control of the vehicle (e.g. the steering control): (i) it must not be possible to start the engine in the normal way until every such mechanical device has been deactivated, (ii) it must not be possible to activate any such mechanical device while the engine is running, and (iii) the action of activating any such mechanical device must be distinct and separate from that of stopping the engine. I'm not aware that any standard product, TUV approved or not, has this type of interlock? |

It a requirement of the Framework Directive: "Each part or piece of equipment authorised in application of this Article shall be appropriately marked. The Commission shall establish marking and packaging requirements, as well as the model and numbering system of the certificate referred to in paragraph 5." |

I was advised by Optimill when I bought the boss that it was considered for off road use only because it wasn’t approved. If I remember correctly there was a small slip of paper in the box.
From the point of view of Optimill they are a small company, with limited resources, and I would imagine the process to seek type or other approval from the EU would be quite onerous and potentially costly so instead they pass the responsibility to the end user. Hi again..
I phoned my insurance to let them know that I had installed the Optimill boss & lock & also a MOMO steering wheel for modification and security purposes and they accepted it. I do believe amongst all the other modifications I added and changed it helped to bring my insurance down.
