It is the same for Series Ones:

Lots of hype.

Posh Auction Houses using Estate Agent language to justify silly asking prices.

Fashion.

Fashion-followers.

The cash-rich and stupid.

(The mistake to make is to think that everyone with cash to burn is "intelligent").

Masses of them have made investment howlers, they just don't publicise it.

All my life, I have been a "counter-cyclical" investor.

My advice: NEVER FOLLOW THE SHEEP (unless you are a sheep dog).

No boom lasts for ever.......

Indeed, and interesting to see how many on Ebay are not selling. One particular seller seems to have had stuff on sale for a very long time with prices up and down like a brides nighty. I have a feeling that for all “traditional” Land Rovers the hype has been done to death and the boom is hopefully over

I've noticed that on ebay over the last few months too. One particular chap in bolton keeps listing what look to be nice vehicles but never seem to reach reserve so just get re-listed. God only knows what the reserve must be as his last 2 seem strong bids.

England 2004 Defender 90 Td5 HT Rutland Red
My experience so far of selling a 2004 TD5 HT for £12k, is either I have the wrong Defender or there is a very limited market
She is provisionally sold for £11.5K, but it has been a struggle

I personally thought £12K was realistic for the condition and decent mods (EGR blanked, Bilstein B6 etc)
Everything else is now OEM

People advertise them for big bucks but they don’t sell. Take a look at “completed listings” on Ebay for instance and then refine the search to “sold items”
Most TD5 Defenders that actually sell are under £10,000.

Gone today for £11.5k
Going to really miss it, and now have the FL2 instead
More practical but less fun

But does have A/C

What a load of nonsense, who is going to pay anything like that for either of those vehicles? The RR is a joke, a 1992 vehicle made to look like it came from the 70s with a late engine etc. Just a hybrid mutt with a nice interior and a a decent paint job. The world is full of chancers! On that note, does anyone want to buy a 1996 300tdi poverty spec pick up......8 careless owners, every body panel has a ding.....was thinking of about £25k? Whistle

There’s a lot of nonsense like this on Ebay. Trouble is, some mug who’s just won the lottery and knows nothing about Defenders may just bite at it, after reading about the LR “recreations” at £150,000

Then there’s the “too cheap” ones such as this very clean looking TD5 HT (look at the crossmember!) for five grand. Why’s that not sold....scam listing? But what’s the point?
