Looking opinions on VCV issues

Hi all,

I've a VCV on my 2.4 playing up, and currently looking at the following options:

1. Remove, dismantle and polish with 2000 grit wet and dry
2. Fit new cheap ebay VCV
3. Fit a new genuine Denso VCV

Considering the original VCV has only done 80k miles, I'm disappointed coming from a Td5 that has done 200k miles and never needed anything except oil and filters changed

Also, has there been any improvements made to VCV's over the years or have I just been unlucky?

New genuine is the only option.

I have had one fail in 230,000 miles (although I have replaced it twice as part of troubleshooting). With decent fuel they do ok.

Td5 went on anything.

What make of fuel filter have you been using?

Mann or Mahle.

Make sure that the tank breather is in good condition and the open end isn't in the usual place (behind a rear wheel). Water, dirt, or the Diesel Bug will kill the VCV very quickly.

Thanks again.

One other thing which I find hard to understand is how random the VCV issues are?

It would run perfect for weeks, then suddenly start messing about for a day or so, then run perfect again. Is this normal?

For example, on Sunday it died about 20 times in 60 mile journey and has been running perfect yesterday and today
