Answer is to remove cubby box, remove the access panel and get your wife to hold the pin in position from above with a wrecking bar. What a palava!

Hi Emptywallet
Sorry just seen your post and know this not a lot of help now! I had the same issue and managed to fix it by unbolting the handbrake back plate from the transfer box and remove the hand brake cable. Assembling the brake shoes and hand brake cable to the back plate off the vehicle and then bolt the rebuilt assembly back to the transfer box. |

I did the hard side 1st then wedged the harder one in place. Took a few attempts and lots of swearing 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

Unbolting the whole handbrake assembly from the transfer box is usually easiest.
