Hand brake right shoe retaining pin - what’s the secret!!
Need some advice please.

Had to replace a frayed handbrake cable on my 2005 110. Cable now in place, but how on earth do you hold the retaining pin for the right hand shoe when you need to push on the spring and retaining cap!?!?!

This should be such a simple operation, but seems a really silly design if you cannot get access to the back of the drum to hold it in place.

Answer is to remove cubby box, remove the access panel and get your wife to hold the pin in position from above with a wrecking bar. What a palava!

All sorted now.

Hi Emptywallet

Sorry just seen your post and know this not a lot of help now!

I had the same issue and managed to fix it by unbolting the handbrake back plate from the transfer box and remove the hand brake cable.

Assembling the brake shoes and hand brake cable to the back plate off the vehicle and then bolt the rebuilt assembly back to the transfer box.

Unbolting the whole handbrake assembly from the transfer box is usually easiest.
